St. John’s Places 29th at the Paul Short Run

Leyre Campo de Quevedo led the Red Storm with a 22:05.7 finish for 21st place in her 6K debut
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The St. John's cross country team placed 29th at the Paul Short Run, on Saturday afternoon at Lehigh's Goodman Campus Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pa.
The Red Storm racked up 745 points in the "Brown" race against some of the top teams from the Northeast. The squad finished ahead of Kent State, Daemen, Hofstra, Mount St. Mary's, D'Youville and NJIT.
The Johnnies earned two top-100 finishes, including a top-25 mark from Leyre Campo de Quevedo.
Campo de Quevedo continued her impressive freshman campaign on Saturday as she led St. John's for the second straight race. The Spain native finished in 22:05.7 for 21st out of 286 runners in her collegiate 6K debut. Ezgi Yasar finished second for the Red Storm, placing 78th overall on a 22:58.1 mark.
Ana Dobsa and Naiara Garcia finished back-to-back with 231 and 232 place finishes. Dobsa and Garcia both paced the course in 24:54.6.
Cristina Stanescu and Brenin Mahon rounded out the Johnnies' effort, finishing fifth and sixth on the team. Stanescu notched a finishing time of 27:32.4 for 275th, while Mahon completed the race in 27:45.8 for 277th.
St. John's will return to the course on Oct. 12 when it looks to defend its Metropolitan Championship title at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J.
