St. John’s Enjoys Successful Outing at the Coach Fred Dwyer Invitational

The Red Storm grabbed five wins at the meet
BRONX, N.Y. – The St. John's track & field team finished out its indoor regular season slate at the Coach Fred Dwyer Invitational at Manhattan's Draddy Gymnasium on Friday.
The Red Storm grabbed five wins in the meet to go along with four personal best marks across three different events.
Zamira Ysaac posted her first victory of the season in the 60-meter hurdle. The senior ran to a personal-record 8.91-second finish in the competition.
In the 400-meter dash, Blessing Assoumany tallied a 59.63-second mark to finish in first place out of an 11-competitor field.
Ezgi Yasar clinched a gold medal in the 800-meter with a time of 2:21.55 in her season debut in the event. Jenna D'Onofrio followed right after Yasar to claim second in the race with a finishing time of 2:24.11. Ana Dobsa rounded out the Johnnies' effort in the 800-meter run with a 2:29.11 mark for fourth place overall.
Gabriella Caronia sprinted her way to a second-place result in the one-mile run with a time of 5:16.42. In her Red Storm debut in the event, freshman Cristina Stanescu nabbed a 5:31.66 result for a fourth-place finish.
Ashley Sadler had an impressive showing in the jump events at the meet, tying for first place with teammate Ruth Smith in the high jump event. Both Johnnies tallied a 1.50-meter result in the competition. In the long jump, Sadler produced a leap of 4.96 meters, good for seventh place. Ioanna Kyprianou registered a 4.82-meter jump for eighth overall in the competition.
The Red Storm also enjoyed a successful outing in the pole vault at Manhattan's home meet, as Colette Metcalf and Berit Friedenbach took home first and second place, respectively. Metcalf notched a personal record 3.50-meter vault while Friedenbach rang up a launch of 3.35 meters for second place.
St. John's will gear up for the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships next Friday and Saturday at the Track & Field Center at Gately Park. The first event will kick off at 11 a.m. on Friday in Chicago.
