St. John’s Finishes Sixth at the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships

The Red Storm racked up 78 total points
CHICAGO (Feb 24, 2024) – The St. John's track & field team claimed sixth place at the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships inside the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track & Field Center on Saturday.
As a team, the Red Storm racked up 78 total points. UConn earned 168 points for first place in the conference championship.
Chinenye Onourah took home a gold medal in the 400-meter dash, adding 10 points to the Johnnies' total. The junior sprinted her way to a season best 54.68-second mark. Amarachukwu Obi finished fourth in the race with a personal-record 55.31-second result.
The Johnnies were awarded a gold medal in the 4x400-meter relay, as their "A" team of Onourah, Nia Holden, Obi and Nora Haugen sprinted the race in 3:43.47.
In the 60-meter dash, Brooklyn Chestnut and Tea Siehou each grabbed personal-best efforts. Chestnut found herself on the podium with 7.50-second finishing time for second place. Siehou finished in fourth after completing the race in 7.63 seconds.
Obi, Chestnut and Onourah each tallied points for St. John's in the 200-meter dash. Obi completed the race in 24.39 seconds for fourth. Chestnut rang up her best 200-meter time of the year with a 24.61-second result for sixth, while Onourah placed eighth with a mark of 25.40 seconds.
Onourah took home a gold medal in the 400-meter dash, adding 10 points to the Johnnies' total. The junior sprinted her way to a season best 54.68-second mark. Obi finished fourth in the race with a personal-record 55.31-second result.
After breaking the program record for the indoor 800-meter yesterday, Haugen topped her record qualifying time of 2:08.56 by 0.89 seconds for a 2:07.65 mark. The sophomore's time placed her fifth in the race.
In the 4x800-meter relay, the Red Storm's squad of Claire Cushing, Leilani Robinson, Jenna D'Onofiro and Ezgi Yasar tallied a season-best relay time of 9:15.99.

In her first BIG EAST Indoor Championship appearance, Rachel Hippolyte notched a personal-best leap of 11.35 meters in the triple jump.
Jamora Alves posted a fourth-place effort in the shot put with a throw of 13.79 meters. Desiree Pagan put forth a collegiate-best heave of 12.02 meters at the conference championship.
The Johnnies will return to kick off the outdoor track & field season on March 15 at the USF Invitational in Tampa, Fla.
