Red Storm will face both squads for the first time in program history
QUEENS, N.Y. – The No. 55 St. John's men's tennis team will play a pair of matches this week in the Lone Star State.
On Wednesday, the Red Storm will face off with No. 10 Texas in Austin at 6 p.m. before traveling to San Antonio to match up with Trinity on Friday at 4 p.m.
The Red Storm (10-2) is coming off a 4-2 victory over Drexel last Friday at the USTA National Tennis Center. The Dragons won the team point in doubles play but the Johnnies won on four-of-five singles courts to earn the decision. Leonardo Mileikowsky earned the match-clinching fourth point on the No. 3 court, getting the better of Hussein Tawil in a back-and-forth three-set affair. After dropping the first set, 6-7, Mileikowsky evened the match at one by taking the second frame, 6-2 and dominated the winner-take-all third set, 6-3.
Mileikowsky was named BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week for his strong performance against the Dragons.
The Red Storm will face both opponents this week for the first time in program history. The 10th-ranked Longhorns enter Wednesday with an 8-2 record and winners of two straight. In its last match on Sunday, Texas earned an impressive 5-0 win over No. 4 South Carolina in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in New York City.
