St. John’s Picks Up Reverse Sweep against UNCW, 4-3

Red Storm came back from down 3-0 to beat the Seahawks
WILMINGTON, N.C. – After falling behind 3-0, the St. John's women's tennis team came back to defeat UNC Wilmington, 4-3 on Friday.
The Red Storm (4-4) dropped the team doubles point and the first two singles matches before emerging victorious in the final four singles contests to complete the comeback and hand the Seahawks their first loss of the season.
In doubles play, UNCW won the first two contests on the No.1 and 3 courts to clinch the team point and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Seahawks took a 2-0 lead on the No. 6 singles court and extended their advantage to 3-0 on the No. 2 court. The Red Storm picked up its first point of the afternoon on the No. 3 court as Nicoline Sartz-Lunde earned a convincing win over Elif Albayrak, 6-1, 6-2. The win was the third of the year in singles play from Sartz-Lunde and the first on the No. 3 court.
Alicia Gómez gave St. John's its second point of the contest, winning a three-set battle over Lucia Gomez on the No. 4 court. After taking the first set, 6-1, Gómez dropped the second set, 6-3 before picking up the 6-3 victory in the winner-take-all third set.
Noemi Babikova tied the match at three, defeating Babbie Glickstein in three sets. After dropping the first, 6-1, the freshman responded by taking the final two frames and the match, 6-3, 6-4. The victory was the third on the season for Babikova on the No. 5 court.
With the match tied at three, Mouna Bouzgarrou was in a winner-take-all battle on the No. 1 court with Eda Arli. Bouzgarrou took the first set before dropping the second by identical 6-3 scores. With the match-deciding third set tied at 6-6, Bouzgarrou dominated the tiebreaker, 7-3, to claim victory in the frame and earn the match-clinching fourth point for the Johnnies.
UNCW falls to 4-1 with the loss.
St. John's will return home for the first time since Feb. 9 on Friday to take on Monmouth. First serve from the USTA National Tennis Center is set for noon.
