St. John’s Readies to Open BIG EAST Play Against Seton Hall and Georgetown

The Red Storm is a combined 37-2 all-time against the two programs
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team will open BIG EAST play this weekend with home matches on Friday against Seton Hall and on Sunday against Georgetown.
Friday's match will start at 12:30 p.m. while Sunday's contest is set to begin at 7:15 p.m. Both will take place at the USTA National Tennis Center.
The Red Storm (5-5) went 1-1 last weekend, earning a convincing 5-1 victory over Monmouth last Friday at the USTA National Tennis Center before falling to Brown, 4-0, on Sunday in Providence, R.I.
Mouna Bouzgarrou picked up her fourth singles win of the season against the Hawks while Arina Gumerova, Nicoline Sartz-Lunde and Noemi Babikova each recorded individual victories.
In doubles play, Gumerova and Alicia Gomez earned a 6-0 victory and Bouzgarrou and Sartz-Lunde earned their third victory of the season as a pair.
The Red Storm and the Pirates will meet on Friday for the 23rd time. The Johnnies have dominated the all-time series, winning 20 of the previous 22 meetings. St. John's has emerged victorious in four straight against Seton Hall, including most recently a 7-0 decision on April 14, 2023 in South Orange, N.J.
Camila Ordonez and Willa Bay Breunich picked up wins in singles and doubles play while Bouzgarrou helped the Red Storm earn the team doubles point, claiming a victory on the No. 1 court with Emilie Haakansson.
The Pirates enter Queens on Friday with a 6-5 overall record and have lost their only BIG EAST contest of the season. In its last matchup on March 6, Seton Hall earned a 4-3 win over Saint Joseph's in Orlando. The Pirates previously lost to BIG EAST foe Creighton, 5-2, on March 5.
The Red Storm has had the Hoyas number over the years, emerging victorious in all 15 previous matchups between the two programs. The schools met twice last season, with the Red Storm scraping out a 4-3 victory on March 26, 2023, in Washington, D.C., before earning a 4-0 sweep on April 21 in the BIG EAST Tournament.
Georgetown has lost four straight matches and is 4-10, 0-1 BIG EAST overall this season. The Hoyas are coming off a defeat at home to Rhode Island on Tuesday, 4-3. Prior to Sunday's meeting with the Red Storm, Georgetown will be in South Orange on Saturday for a matchup with Seton Hall.
Following this weekend's pair of conference contests, the Johnnies will hit the road next weekend for a pair of BIG EAST matches. On Friday, March 24, St. John's will be in Storrs, Conn., to face UConn before making the short trip to Providence, R.I., for a showdown with the Friars on Sunday.
