The Red Storm to host the Seahawks for a midweek doubleheader
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team (13-13, 4-2) will welcome the Wagner Seahawks (2-11, 0-3) for a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday to conclude the squad's 10-game homestand on Tuesday.
The first pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two slated to begin at 3 p.m.
Both games will be broadcast on FloSports with Live Stats available on RedStormSports.com. Admission at Red Storm Field is free for all fans.
The Red Storm enters Tuesday winners of five of its last six following a series sweep of Butler last weekend. The sweep marked St. John's first in BIG EAST play since the 2021 season when the Johnnies took all three games against Providence.
Ana Serafinko continued to shine for the Red Storm in BIG EAST play, recording two wins from inside the circle against the Bulldogs. The two-way player found herself in the batting lineup for the first time during the series opener on Friday and made the most of it by launching her first career home run to center field. Searfinko paces the St. John's pitching staff with a 2.23 ERA in 47 innings to go along with 54 punchouts.
Centerfielder Jess Bianco rides a six-game hitting streak into Tuesday's doubleheader. The lead-off hitter finished last week 8-for-16 (.500 batting average) with five runs scored, one double and two stolen bases in five contests against Manhattan and Butler. Bianco leads the Red Storm by batting .333 with 22 runs scored and 15 stolen bases in 2024.
In five contests last week, the St. John's offense enjoyed five home runs from five different players. London Jarrard hit her team-leading fifth longball in the Red Storm's 6-1 victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday. Katie Whittaker and Elanna Lysiak each crushed their second round-tripper while Melanie Santos and Serafinko notched their first.
Right-hander Loreley Francia continued her impressive sophomore campaign by tallying her fourth complete game of the season on Saturday. The Spring, Texas native allowed just one earned run while striking out 10 Bulldogs in the 6-1 triumph. Francia has now started or appeared in 11 of St. John's 13 wins this season.
The Seahawks enter Tuesday with a 2-11 record this season. Wagner swept the opening doubleheader of 2024 against Norfolk State ahead of dropping its last 11 contests. Senior outfielder Samantha Tran tops Wagner's lineup with a .342 batting average and two RBIs. In the circle, freshman Karson Zavala leads the Seahawks with a 3.86 ERA across 25.2 innings with 21 strikeouts.
St. John's holds an all-time record of 17-4 against Wagner. The Red Storm has won six consecutive contests, outscoring the Seahawks by a combined score of 73-20. The Johnnies earned their first win in program history when they beat Wagner, 4-3, in the first meeting between the two programs in 1981.
