St. John’s Marches on to Face Toledo in WBIT Second Round

Red Storm earned decisive 79-60 victory over Florida on Thursday
TOLEDO, Ohio.– The St. John's women's basketball team will march on to the WBIT Second Round, when it faces Toledo at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The Red Storm and Rockets will tip-off from Savage Arena at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Mason Lowry and Rhett Boyd on the call from Toledo.
St. John's (18-14, 11-7 BIG EAST) put on an offensive clinic in the WBIT First Round at Florida on Thursday night, downing the Gators, 79-60. The Red Storm shot 60.8 percent from the floor the team's highest mark in a single-game since it shot 62.0 percent on Jan. 26, 2020 in a win over Seton Hall. The squad also committed a season-low six turnovers earning its second postseason victory in as many years.
Individually, Unique Drake posted the one of the most prolific scoring performances in program history exploding for 37 points at Exactech Arena. The redshirt senior posted the third-highest single-game scoring mark in St. John's women's basketball history and the most ever in a postseason contest.
The redshirt senior went a personal best 13-for-19 (68.4%) and shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line during her historic scoring performance. She became just the third player in program history to ever score 35 or more points twice in a single-game joining Tawana Jackson and Cozette Ballentine, who starred for St. John's in the 1990's.

Jillian Archer was an efficient on Thursday night's win in Gainesville going for 15 points on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting from field goal range. The graduate student is shooting 59.6 from the floor this season, which ranks first in the BIG EAST and is on pace to break former teammate Rayven Peeples' program single-season record in that category (59.1 %). The Santa Monica, Calif., native is averaging 11.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while starting all 32 games for the Johnnies.
Ber'Nyah Mayo added 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and dished out a game-high six assists at Florida. The senior ranks top-10 in the league in assists (3.4), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8) and steals (1.7) and has finished scoring in double-figures in 12 of her last 14 appearances.
Over its last seven games, the Red Storm have taken care of business at the charity stripe shooting 81.9 percent from the free throw line.
Toledo won the regular season MAC Championship and will enter Sunday's contest with a 27-5 record and an impressive 17-1 mark in conference play. The Rockets have 21 of their last 23 games and boast a 14-1 record at home. Under the direction of 16th year Head Coach Tricia Cullop, the Rockets rank 22nd in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio recording a mark of 1.2.
Toledo is led by 2023-24 MAC Player of the Year Sophia Wiard, who averages 14.6 points and 4.8 assists per game. Her backcourt mate and last year's conference player of the year Quinesha Lockett logs a team-high 15.7 points and 6.3 boards per game.
Sunday's meeting will mark the second-ever meeting between the two programs and first in 27 years. The Red Storm and Rockets previously faced off once on Nov. 29, 1997 in Queens. Toledo captured a 76-49 victory at then-Alumni Hall.
The winner of Sunday's contest will advance to the WBIT Quarterfinals and face the winner of Washington State and Santa Clara on Thursday, March 28.
