Jamora Alves took first place in the discus

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The St. John's track & field team earned four top-five finishes across two events on Friday at the Monmouth Spring Opener in West Long Branch, N.J., at Kessler Stadium.

The Red Storm's throw squad earned a victory in the discus and logged two top-five finishes in the hammer throw.

Jamora Alves registered a first-place finish in the discus for the first time this outdoor season with a heave of 48.03 meters. The Grenada native's throw bested the second-place finisher by nearly four meters.

Maja Henry took fourth place in the discus with a launch of 39.89 meters, while Desiree Pagan rounded out the Johnnies' effort with a 32.48-meter result.

Martina De Buglio claimed second place in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.89 meters. Ismini Andreou finished the event in third place with a 47.79-meter hurl.

The Red Storm will return home for The Big Hurt tomorrow at DaSilva Memorial Field in Queens, N.Y. The meet will kick off at 11 a.m. with the women's pole vault and long jump.
