St. John’s Returns Home to Face Binghamton on Youth Day

The Red Storm will face the Bearcats for the second-consecutive season
The St. John's lacrosse team will return to Queens on Saturday for the first time since Feb. 17 to square off with Binghamton. Faceoff from Belson Stadium is set for noon.
The game is free of charge for all fans and will be streamed on ESPN+. Live stats are available on RedStormSports.com. Postgame autographs with the team will be available for all kids.
The Red Storm (1-6) is coming off a three-game road trip that spanned three states. On Feb. 24, the Johnnies fell to No. 16/16 Richmond before picking up their first win of the season on Feb. 28 at Queens in Charlotte, 11-8. The trip wrapped up this past Saturday when the squad fell at Jacksonville, 24-7.
Bobby Seel netted a pair of goals against Jacksonville to extend his team-best point and goal streaks to eight games. Through seven contests this season, Seel has 11 goals, which is three more than his goal total from last season (8). The Garden City, N.Y., native has also surpassed his previous career-high with 17 points on the year.
Jake Wright set new single-game career-highs in goals and points by scoring a pair and adding an assist against the Dolphins. Freshman Dylan Lee tallied his second goal of the season while Sean Duffy and Evan Stowe each added a score for the Red Storm.
Brian Kelly added a helper to extend his point streak to six games. Kelly's assist against Jacksonville was the 113th point of his career, moving him within two points of 12th place on the program's all-time points list. Through seven games, the Red Hook, N.Y., native leads the Red Storm in goals (12), assists (9) and points (21).
Sophomore defenseman Harry Noel led the Johnnies defensively last Saturday, scooping a team-high four groundballs. Jack Schirtzer caused three turnovers and picked up three loose balls of his own. Schirtzer leads the Red Storm with nine caused turnovers this season.
Dane Armstrong won 12-of-21 draws at the faceoff 'X' and Kyle Munson made 12 saves between the pipes.
On the road swing, Munson made 35 saves across the Red Storm's three contests, including stopping 14 shots against Richmond on Feb. 24. Munson has eight games since the start of 2023 with a save percentage over 50 percent.
Redshirt freshman Adrian Nowak was named to this week's BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll following his six-point performance against Queens last week. Nowak became the second Red Storm player to earn the honor this season after Kelly was given the distinction on Feb. 19.
Binghamton is coming off a dramatic 13-12 overtime win over Mount St. Mary's on Monday to improve to 2-3 in 2024. The Bearcats trailed by one after the first half but rallied to tie the game with less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation on Matthew Keegan's fifth goal of the contest. Liam Ferris scored for the third time in the game in the extra frame to give Binghamton the come-from-behind victory. Gage Adams added a pair of scores while Brody Atkinson recorded four helpers in the match.
Keegan and Ferris lead the Bearcats this season with 13 and 10 goals, respectively. Fourteen players have scored at least one goal for Binghamton while 11 have at least two points this season. At the faceoff 'X', Ross Chazanow has won 77-of-133 draws and leads the squad with 37 groundballs. Chazanow's 57.9 percent mark at the faceoff 'X' is 25th-best in the nation.
Defensively, Jack Fearnley has a team-best six caused turnovers and netminder Connor Winters has a 47 percent save percentage on 132 shots faced.
The Bearcats were picked to finish fourth in the America East preseason poll. Binghamton finished 9-5 a season ago under Head Coach Kevin McKeown, narrowly falling in the conference semifinals to Bryant, 12-11.
Last season, the Bearcats squeaked out a 13-12 win over the Red Storm on March 4, 2023, in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Caleb Zuhoski recorded a four-point outing for the Johnnies, while Caiden Vlasimsky and Kelly each netted a pair of goals. Munson made 12 saves on 23 shots faced in net.
Following this weekend's matchup at Belson, the Red Storm will travel to the City of Brotherly Love to face Saint Joseph's on Feb. 16. Faceoff from Sean Sweeney Field is set for noon.
