St. John’s Falls to Villanova in Game Two of the Series

The Red Storm dropped Saturday's contest, 10-1, to the Wildcats in five innings
VILLANOVA, Pa. – The St. John's softball team (21-20, 10-7) fell to Villanova, 10-1, in five innings on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats (21-17, 12-2) plated five runs in both the first and fifth frames to enforce the run-ahead rule in game two of the series.
Elanna Lysiak led the way for the Red Storm offense, reaching base in all three at-bats with two singles and a walk in the contest. The outfielder now has five hits between the two games in the series.
Junior Maeve Marra recorded her first hit of the season and drove in the lone run for the Johnnies on a bases-loaded walk during the fourth inning.
Ana Serafinko logged her fourth double of the year and second of the series during the contest. The two-way player now holds a slugging percentage of .647 to lead the team.
Villanova jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first, plating the first five batters of the game behind an Elaina Wagner RBI single and a pair of home runs by Ally Jones and Ava Franz, 5-0.
Serafinko attempted to jumpstart the Red Storm offense with a lead-off double in the second, but Villanova's Kat Gallant managed to get out of the frame unscathed, 5-0.
After coming into the circle in relief during the first, Hannah Mearns tossed two consecutive scoreless frames to keep the Wildcats advantage at 5-0 after three.
In the fourth, Melanie Santos and Lysiak each singled while Sydney Totarsky was hit by a a pitch to load the bases. With nowhere to put her, Marra drew a walk to bring home St. John's first run of the ballgame, 5-1.
The score remained until the bottom of the fifth when the Wildcats added five runs to their total on four hits and an error to enforce the run-ahead rule and win game two of the series, 10-1.
The Red Storm and Wildcats will wrap up the series tomorrow at noon from the Villanova Softball Complex.
