QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team (21-18, 10-5) is set to resume conference play when it travels to Villanova (19-17, 10-2) for a three-game series on Friday-Sunday.

St. John's enters the contest winning six of its last eight contests. The Red Storm dropped a midweek tilt to Stony Brook, 9-0, on Wednesday after taking two of three against UConn last weekend. The Johnnies sit third in the BIG EAST with its 10-5 conference mark ahead of the weekend.
On Monday, Ana Serafinko earned her third BIG EAST honor in the past four weeks by being selected as BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week. The honor marked Serafinko's second of the season, making her the sixth Red Storm pitcher to win the weekly award twice in a single season. The left-hander tossed 13.2 innings, maintaining a 1.59 ERA and striking out 22 batters across two starts and a relief appearance against UConn. Searfinko's 1.82 ERA tops the St. John's staff and ranks 61st nationally.
Loreley Francia continued her impressive sophomore campaign last weekend against UConn as well. On Saturday, Francia tallied her team-leading ninth victory from inside the circle, holding the Huskies to just one run while punching out six in five innings of work. The Spring, Texas product holds a 2.38 ERA with 105 strikeouts in 94 innings this year.
Lead-off hitter Jess Bianco leads the Red Storm lineup with a .344 average, .425 on-base percentage, 30 runs scored and 23 stolen bases. Against UConn, Bianco finished the series batting .500 (3-for-6) with three runs scored, three stolen bases and three walks.
St. John's blasted two more home runs over last weekend to bring its team total up to 22 this season. London Jarrard launched her team-leading sixth while Celia Macari hit her first in a Red Storm uniform. 10 different players have hit a longball this year with 7-of-10 recording multiple homers.
Villanova enters the weekend atop the BIG EAST with a 10-2 mark in conference. However, the Wildcats have dropped six of its last seven contests after falling to Delaware on Wednesday and dropping two of three against Creighton last weekend.
Reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year Tess Cites continues to lead the Villanova offense in her senior season. The outfielder is batting .343 with eight home runs and 21 RBIs this year. Freshman Elizabeth Gray recently captured BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on March 25 following a 5-for-9 performance across a four-game stretch.
The Wildcats hold the advantage over the Red Storm, winning 50 of 88 all-time contests between the two programs, including 10 straight games dating back to the 2019 season.
In the series finale last season, the Johnnies played Villanova down to the wire, falling in the eighth inning by a score of 2-1. Anese Thompson drove in the lone St. John's run on a sacrifice fly during the fifth inning.
Following this weekend, the Red Storm will return to New York for a midweek matchup against Hofstra on Wednesday.
