London Jarrard recorded her 100th RBI of her career in the contest
The Red Storm jumped out to a 3-0 advantage before the Wildcats (22-17, 13-2) scored 11 straight runs to enforce the run-ahead rule in the bottom of the fifth.
London Jarrard drilled a two-RBI double in the second inning to eclipse the 100 RBI mark in her career. The shortstop now has 44 runs driven in on the year to pace the team and the BIG EAST conference.
Junior Anese Thompson recorded an RBI single to round out the scoring for the Johnnies. Thompson now has 12 RBIs on the season.
After a scoreless opening frame, the Red Storm notched three runs in the top of the second to take an early lead. Amy Mallah drew a one-out walk before Sydney Totarsky doubled into the right-center gap to put runners on second and third. Thompson then stepped into the box and hit a bloop RBI single over shortstop to plate the first run of the ballgame, 1-0. The inning continued when Maeve Marra walked ahead of Jarrard crushing an opposite-field two-RBI double, 3-0.
The Wildcats got a run back in the bottom half of the second when Kelsey White hit an RBI double to bring home Chloe Smith who singled earlier in the inning, 3-1.
Villanova knotted the game in the third behind a Lilly St. Jean two-run homer off to left, 3-3. Starter Ana Serafinko finished the frame strong, notching a strikeout and flyout to keep the game tied after three.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Wildcats took their first lead of the game, plating six runs in the inning to take the 9-3 advantage.
The game concluded in the bottom of the fifth when Villanova scored two more to enforce the run-ahead rule and win 11-3.
St. John's will be back in action for a midweek contest at Hofstra on Wednesday. The first pitch on Long Island is set for 5 p.m.
