The Red Storm dropped a midweek tilt to the Pride on Tuesday night
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team (21-22, 10-8) fell at Hofstra, 2-0, on Tuesday night at Bill Edwards Stadium.
London Jarrard and Sabrina Seaton each recorded doubles in the contest to lead the Red Storm offense.
Sophomores Ana Serafinko and Sydney Totarsky also recorded singles for the Johnnies.
Starter Loreley Francia was strong in the circle, allowing just two earned runs on six hits while punching out seven batters in six innings of work.
Jarrard provided the Red Storm with an early scoring opportunity, leading off the game with a double into right field. After recording two outs, Serafinko singled into left field allowing Jarrard to round third, but Hofstra's Kayla Wilson made a perfect throw home to prevent the run from scoring and keep the contest scoreless, 0-0.
In the circle, Francia started the game off flawlessly, striking out four batters while keeping the Pride hitless in the first three frames, 0-0.
Hofstra (14-21, 11-7) put the first runs of the ballgame on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Chelsea Villar hit an RBI single and Wilson drove in another run on a groundout to put the Pride up 2-0 after four.
The Red Storm attempted to respond in the top half of the fifth after Seaton drilled a double into left field and London Slade reached on an error to put two on with no outs. However, Hofstra starter Marisa Ogden worked her way out of another jam, retiring the next three batters and preserving the Pride's 2-0 advantage.
The Pride kept the Johnnies out of the run column in the final two innings to secure the 2-0 victory on Tuesday night.
St. John's will now travel to Washington D.C. for a three-game set against Georgetown. The series will kick off on Friday at 3 p.m.
