St. John's looks to get back into the win column following three losses at Villanova last weekend. In game one of the series on Friday, the Red Storm jumped out to a 9-1 advantage before Villanova came back to win 13-9. The Johnnies dropped both of the following games in five innings to the conference-leading Wildcats.
London Jarrard eclipsed the 100 career RBI mark in the series finale on Sunday. The junior drilled a two-run double into the left-center gap to accomplish the feat. Jarrard has a career-high 44 RBIs on the season alone to pace the Red Storm lineup and the BIG EAST Conference. In the opening weekend of this season, Jarrard also recorded her 100th career hit with a triple against NC State at the NFCA Lead-Off Classic in Clearwater, Fla.
Sophomore Cassidy Stouffer hit her second home run of the season on Friday at Villanova. Stouffer capped a five-run third inning with a three-run shot over the left-field wall. The Miami, Fla., product has been a mainstay at the top of the St. John's lineup, slashing .302/.358/.462 with 11 doubles and 21 RBIs this season.
Elanna Lysiak continued her strong sophomore campaign against the Wildcats, tallying five hits across the three-game set. The outfielder finished the series opener with a career-high three hits, including a double and an RBI single. Lysiak has played in 36 of 42 contests this season, totaling six doubles, two homers and 14 RBIs.
Hofstra enters Tuesday on a four-game skid, dropping a contest at LIU before falling in all three games to Stony Brook last weekend. The Pride now sit in fifth in the CAA with an 11-7 conference mark.
On April 8, pitcher Julia Apsel earned CAA Pitcher of the Week honors following an impressive 3-0 weekend in three starts against North Carolina A&T. The senior tossed 16 scoreless innings while striking out 23 batters to earn her second conference honor of the season. Apsel leads the Pride's pitching staff with a 1.59 ERA and 98 punchouts in 128 innings of work this year.
Catcher Becca Vaillancourt leads Hofstra's lineup by batting .358 to go along with eight home runs and 19 RBIs in 2024. After transferring from UMass Lowell last season, Vaillancourt was selected to the NFCA All-Northeast Region Third Team during her first year on Long Island.
The Red Storm and Pride will meet for the 50th time in history on Tuesday evening. St. John's trails in the all-time series with a 12-36-1 record against Hofstra.
The two programs last met on March 17, 2021, when the Pride came out on top in a back-and-forth contest, 11-10. Current assistant coach Marissa Rizzi drove in three runs while Melanie Santos tallied two RBIs in her second career start during a game that featured 24 combined hits.
Following Tuesday, St. John's will head to Washington D.C. for its second-to-last BIG EAST series of the year. The Red Storm will square off with Georgetown for a three-game set beginning on Friday at 3 p.m.
