The Red Storm and Hoyas are set to meet for a three-game set this weekend
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 18, 2024) – The St. John's softball team (21-22, 10-8) will continue its time away from Queens when it travels to Washington D.C. for a three-game set with Georgetown (11-25, 2-13) on Friday-Sunday.
The first pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. while Saturday's contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start. The series will conclude on Sunday at noon at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy.
The entire series will be streamed on the GeorgetownAthletics YouTube page and live stats are provided on RedStormSports.com.
St. John's enters the weekend looking to break a six-game skid dating back to April 7. Last weekend, the Red Storm dropped all three games of a series to conference-leader Villanova. The Johnnies most recently fell in a midweek contest to neighboring Hofstra, 2-0, on Tuesday night.
In the series finale against the Wildcats, London Jarrard eclipsed the 100 career RBI mark with a two-run double into the left-center gap. This marked the junior's second milestone of the year after reaching career-hit No. 100 during the opening weekend against NC State. Jarrard also sits at 44 career doubles which is just two away from breaking Chelsea Durning's St. John's record for career two-baggers.
Loreley Francia had a strong start in the circle against Hofstra earlier this week, allowing just two earned runs on six hits while striking out seven. The Spring, Texas product has been a workhorse for the Red Storm this season, tossing a team-high 100.2 innings with 113 punchouts.
Infielder Cassidy Stouffer drilled her second home run of the season at Villanova last weekend. The sophomore hit a three-run shot over the left-field wall to cap a five-run third inning during game one of the series. St. John's now has 23 home runs from 10 different players this year.
Georgetown comes into the series with an 11-25 overall record and a 2-13 conference mark to place ninth in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas recently snapped a 14-game losing streak by downing Butler, 7-4, in the series finale on Sunday.
Sophomore Dayanara Campos has enjoyed a breakout campaign within Georgetown's lineup in 2024. The Tuscon, Ariz., native leads the Hoyas with a .352 batting average, 10 home runs and 35 RBIs. On Monday, Campos was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after hitting .555 with 3 longballs and 8 RBIs across the three contests with Butler.
In the circle, Georgetown has struggled as a team, posting a team ERA of 6.48 with 208 runs allowed in 234.2 innings.
St. John's holds the upper hand in the all-time series with a 21-11 record against Georgetown. However, the Hoyas have won three of the last five meetings between the two programs including the finale of last year's series.
After the Red Storm took the opening two games of the 2023 series, Georgetown claimed the game three win, 6-4, despite a St. John's four-run first inning that included a Jarrard home run.
Following their trip to the nation's capital, the Johnnies will wrap up their 10-game road trip with a doubleheader at FDU on Tuesday. The pair of contests is slated to start at 1 p.m. at the FDU Softball Field.
