St. John’s to Square Off with Butler This Weekend

Red Storm remains unbeaten against Bulldogs in last seven meetings
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team (23-8-1, 4-2) will look to get back in the win column when it starts a three-game series with Butler (14-22, 1-5) at Jack Kaiser Stadium on Friday at 6 p.m.
The Red Storm will also play a 3 p.m. contest against the Bulldogs on Saturday, followed by a Sunday matinee in Queens slated for 12 p.m. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The first 150 St. John's students attending Friday's game will receive a Chick-fil-A sandwich and the first 100 fans will receive a free bucket hat, both courtesy of RedZone. Saturday is Youth Day at The Jack and all kids in attendance will be able to run the bases after the game.
The Red Storm is 4-2 in conference play, sitting tied for second in the BIG EAST standings. Through six league games, catcher Jimmy Keenan is tied for first with nine runs scored and deadlocked for second with three home runs along with Garrett Scavelli. Saturday starter Evan Chaffee is also one of five pitchers to post a 2-0 record in conference play.
Jackson Tucker earned a double in Tuesday's contest against Columbia, reaching base safely in 21 consecutive contests and surpassing teammate Blake Mayberry for the longest hitting streak of the season at 15 games. The Johnnies' center fielder has the longest such streak since assistant coach John Valente went off for a 22-game stretch to open the 2018 campaign.
The Staten Island native is slashing .375/.462/.578 with 19 runs scored and 18 RBIs, both of which lead the team since starting his hot stretch on March 19 against Manhattan. Tucker has also logged six multi-hit and seven multi-RBI games during his stretch to go with a 10-of-11 showing in stolen-bases opportunities.
The Johnnies are among the nation's top offensive teams with a .309 batting average (32nd), 15 triples (15th) and 84 doubles (20th). St. John's is also ranked 20th in the country with a .734 winning percentage. Mayberry continues to provide a spark for the Johnnies' lineup in the three-hole, logging a .402 batting average (39th in NCAA) and a .508 on-base percentage (47th).

Butler has dropped eight of its last nine games with its lone win coming against Eastern Michigan, 16-10, on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs have seen increased production offensively this season, led by the trio of Kade Lewis, Carter Dorighi and Jack Moroknek. Lewis paces the team with a slash line of .391/.456/.711 with 35 RBIs, 30 runs scored and 20 extra-base hits.
Dorighi has logged a team-best 59 hits through 35 starts this season, good for 15th in the nation. The junior shortstop also leads the squad with 36 runs scored to go with 33 RBIs. Moroknek has belted 11 home runs and 36 RBIs while chipping in 29 tallies. The 6-foot-3 outfielder is also batting .336 this season.
