Seel dished out a career-high four assists, which ties for the most by a Red Storm player this season
WASHINGTON D.C.– The St. John's lacrosse team fell on a sunny Saturday afternoon in the Nation's Capital to No. 11/11 Georgetown, 20-6.
The nationally-ranked Hoyas (9-3, 3-1 BIG EAST) jumped out to an early lead they never relinquished as the Red Storm drop to 4-10 on the year and 1-3 in BIG EAST competition.
Bobby Seel dished out a career-high four assists on Saturday afternoon, which ties Brian Kelly's four in the win at Queens on Feb. 28 for the most by a Red Storm player this season. The Garden City, N.Y., native extended his team-leading point streak to 15 games and is now up to 40 points on the year.
Brian Kelly and Caiden Vlasimsky each tallied a pair of goals at Cooper Field to captain the offensive effort. Kelly's two goals move him to 27 on the year and the junior is tied with Seel for the team-lead in points with 40.
Jake Wright recorded a goal and an assist and Caleb Zuhoski fired in a tally in Washington D.C.
Ronald Durante allowed just three goals and made a career-high seven saves inside the cage over the final 22 minutes of action. Kyle Munson tallied 13 saves as the Red Storm recorded 20 stops as a team.
The Hoyas jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in the early over the first 6:21 of gameplay. The Red Storm got on the board after Kelly swung a pass to Seel, who darted a feed to Vasimsky for the buried shot.
After the Hoyas scored the next six unanswered, Kelly got himself on the board curling around the cage and firing a right-handed shot into the twine. Georgetown took a 14-2 advantage into halftime.
In the third frame, Zuhoski tucked one home off a pass from Wright to halt the Hoyas' 6-0 spurt.
Over the final 15 minutes, St. John's outscored Georgetown 3-2 in the fourt quarter. Vlasimsky, Wright and Kelly each recorded goals and Seel provided the assist on all of them to reach his new personal best mark. Durante made six stops between the pipes during the final frame.
The Red Storm will return home for its final regular season contest with a BIG EAST Tournament berth on the line when it faces Providence on Friday, April 26. First face-off from Belson Stadium is set for 7 p.m. in Queens.
