The Red Storm’s six-game win streak was snapped in the series finale against the Huskies
The Red Storm won the first two games of the series, securing its first series win over the Huskies (20-18, 8-4) since 2012 before falling this afternoon.
Cassidy Stouffer led the way for the Johnnies, going 2-for-3 from the dish with an RBI double and a walk. The Miami, Fla., native now has 11 two-baggers and 18 RBIs on the season to rank second in both categories.
Shortstop London Jarrard supplied a two-RBI single in the contest to go along with a pair of walks. The junior is now up to 39 RBIs with an impressive .344 average in 2024.
St. John's scored in the first inning for the third time this series behind a Jarrard walk and then a wild pitch to put her at second with one out. Stouffer then smacked a double into left-center, plating Jarrard and giving the Johnnies a 1-0 advantage.
Starter Ana Serafinko followed up the early lead with a strong second frame, retiring the Huskies 1-2-3 with a pair of punchouts.
The Red Storm offense continued its early attack in the bottom of the second, bringing home two more runs. Amy Mallah sparked the offense with a hit-by-pitch before Elanna Lysiak walked and Jess Bianco hit an infield single to load the bases with two outs. Jarrard then came through, driving a single back up the middle to bring around Mallah and Lysiak, extending the Johnnies' lead to 3-0.
UConn responded right back in the top of the third when Rosie Garcia hit a triple to right field, bringing home Grace Jenkins and Hope Jenkins who each singled earlier in the inning, 3-2.
In the top of the fourth, the Huskies' offense continued to threaten, putting two on behind a Kaitlyn Kibling single and Haley Coupal walk. Lexi Hastings then hit an infield single and a St. John's miscue allowed UConn to knot the game, 3-3.
The score remained tied until the top of the sixth when UConn took their first lead of the series behind a Jana Sanden RBI single and Hope Jenkins' two-RBI double, 6-3.
The Huskies tacked on two more in the top of the seventh on their way to winning the series finale by a score of 8-3.
St. John's will now head east to take on Stony Brook in a midweek tilt at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
