St. John’s Travels East for Contest with Stony Brook

The Red Storm look for a third consecutive win over the Seawolves
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team (21-17, 10-5) is set to head east for a contest with Stony Brook (19-13, 9-6) on Wednesday at University Field. The first pitch on Long Island is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The Red Storm enters winners of six of its last seven contests. Last weekend, St. John's took two of three against UConn to win its first series against the Huskies since the 2012 season. The Johnnies now sit in third place in the BIG EAST just behind Creighton and conference leader Villanova.
Ana Serafinko continued her breakout season by earning BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday. The left-hander tossed 13.2 innings, maintaining a 1.59 ERA and striking out 22 batters across two starts and a relief appearance against UConn. Searfinko now ranks 59th in the nation with a 1.82 ERA this year. The two-way standout also recorded a pair of doubles and three RBIs in the middle game of the series with the Huskies.
Alongside Serafinko, Loreley Francia, Hannah Mearns and Carolina Zamudio have helped combine for a team ERA of just 2.41 with 257 strikeouts. On Saturday, Francia tallied her team-leading ninth victory from inside the circle, holding the Huskies to just one run while punching out six in five innings of work.
Lead-off hitter Jess Bianco continued to be a spark for the Red Storm offense against UConn, finishing the weekend 3-for-6 with three runs, three stolen bases and three walks. Bianco leads the Johnnies with a .349 average, .427 on-base percentage, 30 runs scored and 22 stolen bases.
St. John's drilled two more home runs over the weekend to bring its team total up to 22 this season. London Jarrard drilled her team-leading sixth while Celia Macari hit her first in a Red Storm uniform. 10 different players have hit a longball this year with 7-of-10 recording multiple homers.
Stony Brook enters the contest on a six-game winning streak after sweeping Towson and Monmouth the past two weekends. The Seawolves are currently fifth in the CAA with a 9-6 conference mark.
Senior infielder Kyra McFarland was named CAA Softball Player of the Week on Monday after slashing .778/.800/.889 across the team's series with Monmouth. McFarland leads the Seawolves by batting .413 this year. In the circle, Mia Haynes tops Stony Brook's pitching staff with a 3.33 ERA in 88.1 innings pitched while striking out 73. The senior has tossed seven complete games and holds an 8-6 record.
St. John's holds the all-time series advantage with a 10-6 record against Stony Brook. Last season, the two programs met twice in a home-and-home with the Red Storm coming out on top in both. On last year's senior day, the Johnnies took down the Seawolves 10-0 in five innings behind a Cassidy Stouffer two-run home run.
Following Wednesday, the Red Storm will resume BIG EAST play when it heads to Pennsylvania to take on a first-place Villanova in a three-game set on Friday-Sunday.
