Women’s Basketball Signs Ariana Vanderhoop

The graduate transfer was a 2023-24 All-CAA selection at Monmouth
QUEENS, N.Y– The St. John's women's basketball program has signed Monmouth graduate transfer Ariana Vanderhoop the team announced on Thursday.
Vanderhoop garnered All-Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) selection during her senior campaign after averaging 10.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in 2023-24.
"We're thrilled to have Ariana join our program for the 2024-25 season," Head Coach Joe Tartamella said. "She brings a wealth of experience having played in over 100 college games and is a proven facilitator on the offensive end of the floor. Defensively, she can guard at a high-level and possesses a strong rebounding ability that will help us on the glass. Her toughness and work-ethic will fit in perfectly here at St. John's."
The guard was a staple for the Hawks over her four-year tenure starting in 98 of her 101 total appearances. The Boston native accumulated 877 points, 479 rebounds and 202 assists over her career.
In 2023-24, the senior guided Monmouth to a 22-10 overall record, the second highest win total in program history and its second consecutive postseason appearance. Vanderhoop ranked second on the team in scoring averaging 10.8 points per game on 44.4 percent shooting from the floor. She reached double-figures in scoring in 17 contests and ranked second on the team in points per game.
Vanderhoop was named CAA Player of the Week on Feb. 26 after averaging 23.5 points per game in a pair of conference wins. The guard went for a career-high 26 points and shot 9-for-14 (63.3%) from the field in a 10-point victory over College of Charleston on Feb. 25. Following the regular season and leading the Hawks to a second-place finish, the Cathedral School product was tabbed as an all-conference player.
On the defensive end, Vanderhoop was a valued member of a stifling Hawks' defense. Monmouth ranked seventh nationally in 3-point field goal percentage defense (25.8%), fourth in blocks per game (5.8) and 16th in rebounding margin (+7.8).
During her junior season, she played an integral role in a magical CAA Tournament run winning four games in four days as the seventh-seed to send Monmouth back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 40 years. The Hawks knocked off the top three seeds and Vanderhoop logged a 17-point, eight-rebound performance over top-seeded Towson in the title game. In 2022-23, she started 30 out of 31 games and averaged 10.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
During her first two years in West Long Branch, she started all 42 games as an underclassmen. Vanderhoop added 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per outing as a sophomore in 2021-22. During her rookie year, she led the team shooting 76.9 percent from the free throw line.
In high school, the Massachusetts native won a pair of state titles at the Cathedral High School.
