St. John’s to Visit Seton Hall This Weekend

Red Storm can clinch BIG EAST Tournament berth with one win against the Pirates
QUEENS, N.Y. (May 9, 2024) – Winners of five straight conference games, the St. John's baseball team (31-12-1, 11-4) will head to South Orange, N.J., to take on BIG EAST rival Seton Hall (22-26, 5-10) beginning on Friday at 4 p.m., inside Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field.
The Red Storm and Pirates will return to action on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday, followed by a noon start on Sunday. All three contests will be streamed on FloSports and live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
St. John's is one win away from clinching a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 2019. The Johnnies are looking to make just its third appearance at Prasco Park since the conference moved the postseason tournament to Mason, Ohio.
The Red Storm stunned Creighton with a three-game sweep at Jack Kaiser Stadium last weekend. The Johnnies secured a 7-3 victory on Friday night before Ben Beauchamp walked off for a 3-2 extra-inning win in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. Reigning BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week Mario Pesca sealed the sweep with a dominant performance in the series finale, tossing a career-long seven innings of work to go with seven strikeouts in a 7-1 triumph. St. John's also picked up the win in the final two games at Xavier during the weekend prior.
Over the team's five-game conference winning streak, Marty Higgins has driven in a team-best nine runs, leading the way with two home runs. The Red Storm pitching staff has stifled the opposition with a 2.15 team ERA and a .219 batting average against. Louis Marinaro has secured two of the team's five wins during that span, boasting a 1.50 ERA and eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.
Blake Mayberry has been on a tear for the Red Storm as of late, riding a 13-game hitting streak and a 16-game reached base streak into Friday's contest. The Philadelphia native started his hitting stretch with a 3-for-6 performance against UConn on April 13. The Johnnies' third baseman continues to be an offensive threat with a .386 batting average (1st in BE, 46th in NCAA) and a .497 on-base percentage (1st in BE).
St. John's holds an 89-76 advantage over Seton Hall in a series that dates back to 1956. The Johnnies have also won two consecutive doubleheaders and four straight games on the road against the Pirates.
