The rising senior will serve a two-year term as the BIG EAST’s representative on the committee
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's lacrosse defenseman Braeden Pratt was named to the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as the BIG EAST Conference's representative.
Pratt was one of 32 student-athletes from across the country to be named to the prestigious committee, which works hand-in-hand providing a student-athlete perspective to the NCAA.
Pratt, whose term on the committee began on June 28 and will last through May 31, 2026, will head to the NCAA SAAC Division I meeting from July 9-11 in Indianapolis.
"I'm very proud to be nominated by the BIG EAST Conference to represent our member schools at the Division I level," said Pratt. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to meet with student-athletes from across the country and work with them to better the student-athlete experience."
The 2023-24 school year was Pratt's first on the school's SAAC and he served as a transformative member of the group. The three-year letterwinner serves as the St. John's SAAC President and has led initiatives such as Cards for Kids, the BIG EAST SAAC Virtual Food Drive, and implementing the student-athlete superlatives into the athletics celebration. Additionally, the Red Storm defenseman continues to serve as the St. John's representative on the BIG EAST SAAC.
"Braeden has led the charge in our locker room and in our athletics campus community since our staff arrived at the beginning of his sophomore year," said St. John's Lacrosse Head Coach Justin Turri. "He is an accomplished player on the field, but his passion for his teammates throughout St. John's athletics is what makes him a special type of leader."
The Division I Committee is comprised of 32 student members, one from each conference. Each member is tasked with commenting and reacting to legislative proposals, issues of interest and actions of the Division, offering a student-athlete perspective on NCAA proceedings.
The mission of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which was founded in 1989, is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by protecting student-athlete well-being, fostering a positive student-athlete image and inclusive student-athlete environment, and promoting student-athlete engagement at the national, conference and local levels.
Pratt continues to be an engaged member of the St. John's community. In addition to being a team leader on the field, he has been a Student Development 101 peer leader for two years and is working towards a degree in finance.
On the field last season, the two-time captain started all 15 games for the Red Storm on defense, scooping 15 groundballs and causing six turnovers. The Beverly, Mass., native also picked up his first career point, notching an assist in the Johnnies' 13-9 win over Marquette on March 30.
"Braeden is extremely deserving of this role and representing the BIG EAST," Turri continued. "We are eager to see his continued development into one of the best Johnnies to come through this program."
