St. John’s Finishes Fifth at the Br. John “Paddy” Doyle Meet of Champions

Leyre Campo de Quevedo led the Red Storm and recorded a 19:17.79 finish in her collegiate debut
BRONX, N.Y. – The St. John's cross country team opened its season with a fifth-place finish at the Br. John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions on Friday morning. As a team, the Red Storm scored 154 points and finished ahead of Molloy, Iona, Dominican and Yeshiva at the Gaels' home meet.
Leyre Campo de Quevedo led the way for the Red Storm in her collegiate debut, recording a 19:17.79 finish in the 5K for 23rd place overall. Campo de Quevedo is the first freshman to lead St. John's in a cross country race since Ezgi Yasar did it at the 2022 Metropolitan Championships with a time of 19:38.3 for third place.
Yasar grabbed 40th in the meet with a time of 20:30.62. Cristina Stanescu and Gabriella Caronia finished in the same heat for 54th and 56th place, respectively. Stanescu began her sophomore season with a 22:51.60 5K result while Caronia paced the race in 23:31.61.
Brenin Mahon and Eileen Grenados kicked off their Red Storm careers with 58th and 60th place efforts. Mahon finished the 5K course in 24:14.20 while Grenados rounded out the Johnnies' day with a mark of 24:32.80.
St. John's will return for action on Saturday, Oct. 5, when it takes part in the Lehigh's Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa.
