St. John’s Readies for First Road Test at Harvard on Friday Night

Red Storm to battle defending Ivy League Champions at 8 p.m.
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball team (1-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) will ready for its first road test of the 2025-26 campaign when it battles defending Ivy League Champions Harvard (0-0, 0-0 Ivy League) on Friday night at 8 p.m.
Friday's matchup will be streamed live on ESPN+ from Lavietes Pavilion, the second-oldest college basketball arena in NCAA Division I. Katie Bennert, Amanda Keene will be on the call with Gabby Santori as the sideline reporter from Cambridge, Mass. Live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm tallied its ninth consecutive season-opening victory on Monday afternoon sinking Le Moyne, 68-53, at Carnesecca Arena. The Johnnies utilized a 20-0 scoring run and held the Dolphins without a single point for 8:40 of game time. The St. John's defense forced Le Moyne into 20 turnovers and blocked seven shots in the winning effort.
Head Coach Joe Tartamella collected his 240th career victory on Monday and moved to 13-1 all-time in season and home openers.
The Johnnies received ample production of the bench with 40 of their 68 points coming from their reserves, Three of the team's four leading scorers in Monday's opener came from off the bench.
Brooke Moore shined in her debut recording new personal bests in scoring (15), rebounds (8), made free throws (5) and blocks (4). The 6-foot guard arrives in Queens after two seasons and a 2025 NCAA Tournament appearance with Liberty.
Daniela Abies was another newcomer that impressed in her debut off the bench. The Miami transfer went for a 10-point, 15-rebound double-double at Carnesecca Arena. The redshirt junior's 15 boards marked the highest rebounding total by a St. John's player since Jillian Archer grabbed 17 caroms during a 68-48 victory over Georgetown on Dec. 31, 2022. The Malaga, Spain product missed the majority of last season at Miami due to injury and was an All-American Athletic Conference Third Team selection while at Wichita State in 2023-24.
Sophomore Janeya Grant was another key producer amongst the reserve unit, splashing three triples. The guard matched a career-best with her three 3-pointers and nine points in Monday's opener. Jailah Donald chipped in nine points and Shaulana Wagnerdished out a game-high seven assists.
The Red Storm and Crimson will meet for the sixth time in the history of the two programs and the first time in Cambridge since the 2011-12 campaign, when St. John's went onto make the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. The two squads will meet for the second straight year with the Johnnies leading the all-time series, 3-2.
In last year's meeting, Harvard outlasted St. John's, 54-52, on Thanksgiving Day at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm surged back to tie the score with :07 remaining before the Crimson's Harmoni Turner flushed the game-winner with :01 to play on Nov. 28, 2024.
The Crimson are coming off one of its best campaigns in program history and will hit the hardwood for the first time this season. In 2024-25, Harvard tied a program best with a 24-7 record, won its first Ivy League Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007.
The Crimson will make its season debut on Friday night welcoming back 11 returners from last year's championship team. Harvard lost its two leading scorers, including Honorable Mention Associated Press All-American Harmoni Turner. The 2025 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year averaged 22.5 points per game.
