St. John’s to Face Quinnipiac on Tuesday in Home Opener

The Johnnies and Bobcats will meet in Queens for the second straight year
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's lacrosse team will open its home slate on Tuesday against Quinnipiac. Faceoff from Belson Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Ralph Bednarczyk and Johnny Gadamowitz on the call, and live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Johnnies are 1-1 to start the season, most recently falling on the road to No. 18/16 Delaware, 17-10, on Saturday in Newark, Del. St. John's started fast against the Blue Hens, taking a 9-7 lead into the locker rooms behind four first-half goals from freshman sensation, Ryan Ormond. Delaware outscored the Red Storm 10-1 in the second half to deal St. John's its first loss of the 2025 season.
The Red Storm attack has been lethal this season, with all three starters in the top 20 in the country in points per game. As a unit, Ormond, Brian Kelly and Adrian Nowak have combined for 35 points and have scored 17 of the Red Storm's 25 goals this season.
Ormond scored five times on Saturday, raising his total to 11 goals through two games. The former BIG EAST Freshman of the Week leads the BIG EAST and is second in the nation with 5.5 goals per game, and his 5.5 points per contest is the 17th best in the country. The Waxhaw, N.C., native also leads the conference with a 64.7 shot percentage.
Kelly added five points on two goals and three helpers against Delaware, raising his career point total to 147, the sixth highest in program history. The senior is fifth nationally and third in the BIG EAST with 4.0 assists per game, while his 5.5 points per contest is tied with Ormond for 17th-best in Division I lacrosse.
Nowak followed up his record-breaking 10-point, seven-assist performance against NJIT on Feb. 8 with three more helpers at Delaware Stadium over the weekend. The redshirt sophomore has 13 points this season to lead the Red Storm, and his 6.5 points per game leads the BIG EAST and is tied for seventh nationally. Nowak also ranks fourth in the country with 5.0 assists per game.
Bobby Seel added a goal against Delaware to extend his team-best point streak to 18 games, dating back to the end of the 2023 season, while senior midfielder Dan Koban found the back of the net for the second straight game. Freshman Jayson Cardenas earned the first point of his career on Saturday with an assist and sophomore James Easton recorded the first score of his two-year tenure in Queens.
The Red Storm has assisted on 21 of its 25 goals this season, an 84 percent clip. The team's 10.5 helpers per game lead the BIG EAST and rank fourth nationally. Last season, the Johnnies recorded assists on just 69-of-137 scores (50 percent).
Defensively, sophomore LSM Dylan Lee caused three turnovers against Delaware, raising his season total to 6. His 3.0 forced giveaways per game lead the BIG EAST. Lee has four groundballs and one goal as well in 2025. Defenseman Quinn Falasca added three loose balls on Saturday, bringing the freshman's season total to eight to go along with four caused turnovers.

The Bobcats were competitive in the first 30 minutes, only trailing 6-3 at the half, but got outscored 9-2 in the third quarter and 4-0 in the final stanza. Nate Watson netted a pair of goals on his only two shots of the game and added two assists, while Trevor Douglas, Cole Marsala and Justin Robbert each found the back of the net. After winning 32 faceoffs in 2024, Frank Mousa got the start at the 'X' on Friday, going 7-for-21 against UMass. The Bobcats caused six UMass turnovers on Friday and converted over 88 percent of their clearing attempts.
Quinnipiac lost its top five point-scorers from a season ago, including Ryan Donnery, who totaled 59 points in 2024. Douglas, who started 13 games and tallied 21 points on 19 goals and two helpers last year, is the Bobcats' leading returning scorer. Mason Oak returns for Quinnipiac this season between the pipes after an outstanding 2024, where he saved 57 percent of the shots he faced, allowing just 11.12 goals per game.
Tuesday will be the fifth meeting between the two programs, with the all-time record tied at 2-2. Last season, the Bobcats earned a 17-11 win over the Red Storm on Feb. 10, 2024, at DaSilva Memorial Field. Kelly and Seel combined for eight points for St. John's in the loss.
