No. 66 St. John’s Picks up 7-0 Sweeps Over Adelphi and Boston University

The Johnnies are off to their best start in program history at 13-0
QUEENS, N.Y (Feb. 28, 2025) – The St. John's men's tennis took earned a pair of 7-0 victories in a doubleheader against Adelphi and Boston University on Friday at the USTA National Tennis Center.
The Johnnies ran past the Panthers in the first game before defeating a shorthanded Terriers squad in the nightcap.
With the two wins, the Johnnies stay undefeated and continue the best start to a season in program history.
In the morning's contest against Adelphi, the Red Storm swept the doubles point and won all six matches in singles play to make quick work of its foes from Garden City, N.Y.
Adam Groves and Ryota Kaneda defeated Elouan Boyer and Yannick Stolz, 6-1, to kick off doubles action. Ignacio Vinas and Leonardo Mileikowsky took down Andrea Albiero and Louca Bertone, 6-2, clinching the doubles point for the home side.
In singles action, Danilo Raicevic dominated Rodrigo Ochoa, 6-0, 6-1, before Sam Edgar earned a straight-set victory over Albiero at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Up 3-0, Max Amling made it 4-0 with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph against Marko Jovanovic on the No. 2 court, while Armando Sotelo rallied after dropping the first set to defeat Spyridon Papageorgio, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, making it 4-0.
Sophomore Marco Cinotti defeated Matias Hoyos, 6-4, 7-5, and Carl Gustavsson finished the match with a 7-6, 6-2 decision over Bertone at No. 2 singles.
The latter match against Boston University was more of the same for the Johnnies. After sweeping the team doubles point, St. John's was flawless in singles play, earning all six possible points.
Kaneda and Groves got a win by default to start doubles action against BU for their second win of the day as a pair, improving to 12-0 this season. Amling and Sotelo defeated Jonah Dickson and Cole Knutsen, 6-1, to finish off the doubles sweep.
Up 1-0, Kaneda improved to 10-0 this season in singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 performance over Ege Topkoc at No. 4 singles. Cinotti got his second win of the day by default, and Groves earned a singles triumph with a 6-2, 6-1 decision against Jaydon Barki, giving the Red Storm a 4-0 lead.
Vinas took down Dickson, 6-0, 6-1, Mileikowsky got the best of Knutsen, 6-1, 6-2, and Amling defeated Gabe Brown, 6-4, 6-2, to finish off the perfect day for St. John's.
The Red Storm will return to action on March 6 to take on Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, Ariz., before facing Arizona the following day in Tuscon, Ariz.
