QUEENS, N.Y. – Following a pair of matches in the desert against Northern Arizona and No. 8 Arizona, the St. John's men's tennis team will return to Queens to host local rival Hofstra on Wednesday. First serve from the USTA National Tennis Center is set for 12 p.m.
The Johnnies (14-1, 3-0 BIG EAST) earned a dramatic 4-3 triumph over Northern Arizona last Thursday before dropping its first match of the season to Arizona on Friday, 4-0.
Ryota Kaneda and Adam Groves have paced the Johnnies in doubles action, earning an 12-0 record so far this season as a duo. Leonardo MIleikowsky and Ignacio Vinas have also impressed when paired up, going 6-3 in dual-match play in 2025.
In solo play, the Johnnies have been led by Kaneda and Mileikowsky, who are 10-1 and 8-11, respectively. St. John's has also received impressive performances from Max Amling, who is 8-3, and Vinas, who has won eight of his 10 contests. All 11 of Amling's solo contests have come on the No. 1 singles court.
Hofstra is 5-3 this season and has won its last two matches, most recently taking down LIU, 4-3, on Sunday. Enaut Garcia and Josh Reynolds are 5-2 in doubles play this season, leading the Pride. Noa Forste-Dinell and Reynolds have also won four contests together. In solo play, Matthew Garcia has a team-best 11 wins, while Vincent Turina has 10.
St. John's has swept its last five meetings against Hofstra, including a 4-0 triumph on Feb. 8, 2024 in Queens.
Following Wednesday's battle against the Pride, the Red Storm will head upstate to take on Cornell on Saturday.
