St. John’s Rallies to Defeat DePaul, 4-3

The Johnnies came back from down 3-0 to earn the win
CHICAGO - The St. John's women's tennis team earned a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over DePaul on Friday in Chicago.
The Johnnies (10-4, 3-0 BIG EAST) dropped the team point and the first two contests of singles action before winning four straight solo contests to earn the victory.
In doubles action, the Blue Demons earned victories on the No. 1 and 3 court to easily clinch the team point and take a 1-0 lead.
The home squad quickly made it 3-0 with wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, but Alicia Gomez got the Red Storm on the board with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph against Elanor Cochran on the No. 6 court.
After splitting the first two sets, Nicoline Sartz-Lunde beat Eleanor Nobbs by retirement on the No. 3 court, making it 3-2. Sandra Dzhambazov brought the Johnnies level with a dramatic three-set triumph over Roberta Sechi, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, on the No. 5 court.
In a winner-take-all match on the No. 2 court, Noemi Babikova narrowly dropped the first set to Saha Stula, 6-7, before rallying in set two, 7-5, and taking the decisive third set, 6-4.
With the win, the Red Storm improved to 5-11 all-time against DePaul and beat the Blue Demons for the first time since 2022.
The Red Storm will return to action on Sunday when it faces Marquette in Milwaukee, Wisc. First serve from the Helfaer Tennis Stadium is set for 11 a.m.
