St. John’s Heads to the Midwest for a Three-Game Set with Butler

The Red Storm rides a seven-game winning streak and a 19-2 record in its last 21 contests
INDIANAPOLIS – The St. John's softball team is set to continue BIG EAST play when it heads to the Midwest to take on Butler for a three-game set in Indianapolis.
The series will kick off on Friday with a 3 p.m. first pitch. The middle contest will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, while the finale is set for noon on Sunday. Friday's contest will be streamed on FloSports and all games will have Live Stats provided on RedStormSports.com.
The Johnnies own a 21-8-1 record and are riding a seven-game win streak after completing its first homestand with a 13-5 win over Manhattan on Wednesday. Dating back to Feb. 16, the Red Storm are 19-2 in its last 21 contests. In its opening BIG EAST series, St. John's swept Georgetown in Queens, outscoring the Hoyas by a combined score of 27-8 in the three games.
St. John's has been led by its pitching staff to open the season, ranking first in the country with 9.63 strikeouts per seven innings. The staff is led by juniors Ana Serafinko and Loreley Francia who have combined to punchout 245 batters in 2025.
Serafinko earned her ninth win inside the circle against Manhattan on Wednesday, racking up eight strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work. Monday, the Chino Hills, Calif., product was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second consecutive week after going 2-0 against Georgetown that included her second 17-strikeout performance in the opening game of the series. The left-hander holds 2.30 ERA with 132 strikeouts across 82.1 innings pitched.
Francia has been untouchable inside the circle to start 2025, boasting a 1.49 ERA with an 11-3 record and 113 strikeouts in 89.1 innings pitched. The right-hander picked up her 11th victory inside the circle on Saturday against Georgetown, punching out 10 batters while allowing four runs on six hits in a complete-game performance.
On offense, London Jarrard continues to lead the squad, batting .440 with nine doubles, five home runs and 32 RBIs to start 2025. The senior is just one hit away from reaching the 200-career hit milestone after an RBI double against Manhattan. Jarrard earned her second BIG EAST Player of the Week Honor on Monday after going 5-for-8 (.625) with two home runs, four RBIs, a .800 on-base percentage and three stolen bases.
Madison Konopka notched another multi-hit performance against Manhattan, producing a pair of singles and an RBI in the midweek victory. Konopka was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, batting .455 with three runs scored, a home run and four RBIs. The third baseman drilled her first career homer with a two-run shot against Georgetown on Saturday.
Butler begins the weekend with a 16-8 overall record and a 5-1 mark in BIG EAST play to sit in second place in the conference standings. Seven players have begun the year batting over .300 in the Bulldogs lineup led by Cate Lehner, who is batting a whopping .422.
Makena Alexander leads Butler with seven home runs and 25 RBIs to go along with her .324 batting average. Inside the circle, freshman Gwen Baker leads the squad with 2.60 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 59.1 innings pitched.
St. John's and Butler have met on 30 previous occasions with the Red Storm leading the all-time series with a 20-10 record. Last season, the Johnnies swept the Bulldogs in the regular-season series at Red Storm Field. The two programs met once again on the second day of the BIG EAST Championships where St. John's routed Butler in five innings, taking the contest 12-2.
