The Johnnies are 16-2 for the first time in program history
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team will wrap up its three-match road swing when it visits No. 46 Yale on Saturday. First serve from West Haven, Conn., is set for 1 p.m.
The Johnnies (16-2, 3-0) earned a dramatic 4-3 triumph over Monmouth on Wednesday in its last time out. The Johnnies took the team doubles point behind a gutsy 6-4 triumph by Max Amling and Armando Sotelo before taking three singles contests to earn the win in New Jersey.
Ryota Kaneda and Adam Groves have paced the Johnnies in doubles action, earning a 13-1 record so far this season as a duo. Leonardo MIleikowsky and Ignacio Vinas have also impressed when paired up, winning six contests in dual-match play in 2025.
In solo play, the Johnnies have been led by Kaneda and Mileikowsky, who are 12-1 and 11-2, respectively. St. John's has also received strong performances from Amling, who is 9-5, and Vinas, who has won 10 of his 13 contests. All 13 of Amling's solo contests have come on the No. 1 singles court.
The nationally-ranked Bulldogs are 9-5 this season, most recently falling on the road last Sunday to Loyola Marymount, 4-3.
Saturday will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two schools, with Yale winning the last two matchups. This will be the fourth-consecutive season St. John's and Memphis have squared off.
Following Saturday's match in Connecticut, the Red Storm will return home to host Temple on Sunday, March 30.
