St. John's Alumnus Leah Anderson Competes in 400-Meter Dash at Indoor Track & Field World Championships

Anderson posted a mark of 52.86 seconds for Team Jamaica in the qualifying round
NANJING, China – St. John's track & field alumnus, BIG EAST Champion and program record-holder Leah Anderson competed in the 400-meter run for Team Jamaica on Friday at the Indoor Track & Field World Championships in Nanjing, China.
In the qualifying round, Anderson posted a finishing time of 52.86 seconds. The Mount Vernon, N.Y., native finished in fourth place in her heat and eighth place overall, beating out ninth-place China's Yinglan Liu by 0.28 seconds.
The sprinter is no stranger to international competition, finishing in second place in the 4x400-meter relay at the 2024 Indoor Track & Field World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Anderson anchored Team Jamaica's second-place squad with a 51.54-second split.
The Mount Vernon, N.Y. native holds the St. John's program records in the indoor 60-meter, 200-meter, 300-meter, 400-meter and 4x200-meter relay. She's also shined as a school record holder in the outdoor 400-meter dash and the 4x100-meter relay.
During the sprinter's Red Storm career, she impressed in conference competition, being named the BIG EAST Most Outstanding Performer in the 2022 indoor and outdoor league track & field championships.
