The Johnnies are 18-2 this season, the best start in program history
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team earned a 4-0 sweep over Temple on Saturday at the St. John's Outdoor Courts.
The Johnnies (18-2, 3-0 BIG EAST) took the team doubles point before sweeping singles play, completing the victory to continue the team's best start in program history.
Adam Groves and Ryota Kaneda kicked off partner play with a 6-0 shutout of Erden Er and Alberto Blumenschein on the No. 3 court for their 15th win this season as a pair. On the No. 1 court, Armando Sotelo and Max Amling won their third straight, taking down Dante Russo and Pranav Nemani, 6-3, clinching the team point for St. John's.
Up 1-0 heading into solo action, Amling defeated Martim Marujo at No. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. On the No. 4 court, Leonardo Mileikowsky got the best of Aayush Bhat, 6-4, 6-2, and Danilo Raicevic finished off the sweep for the Red Storm, earning a hard-fought triumph over Er, 7-6, 7-6, on the No. 5 court.
With the win, the Johnnies improved to 5-2 all-time against the Owls and defeated Temple for the first time since 2021.
St. John's will return to action on Wednesday when it travels to The Bronx to take on New York City-rival Fordham.
