St. John’s Falls Short at UConn, 4-3

The Johnnies will head into the BIG EAST Tournament with a 13-6 record
STORRS, CONN. (April 13, 2025) – The St. John's women's tennis team dropped a tightly contested match on Sunday afternoon, falling to BIG EAST foe UConn, 4-3, at the UConn Tennis Courts.
Despite winning three matches in singles play, the Red Storm (13-6, 5-1 BIG EAST) could not overcome an early deficit after dropping the doubles point.
The Wildcats swept doubles play on the No. 1 and No. 2 court to take the team point and a 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles action, Noemi Babikova picked up her sixth victory of the season with a straight-set victory over Isabel Petri Bere, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 2 position. Sandra Dzhambazov extended her winning streak to 10 matches, dispatching Isabella Asenov, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6 singles. Alicia Gomez added another point for the Red Storm, rallying from a set down to defeat Chloe Lomans, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 5 spot.
The Huskies claimed victories in the No. 3 and No. 4 positions before clinching the match in a thriller at the top of the lineup. Victoria Papadopoulou battled to a third-set tiebreak against Olivia Wright but ultimately fell, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 7-6 (4).
St. John's will look to bounce back at the BIG EAST Tournament, set to begin next Friday in Cayce, S.C.
