The Red Storm match its longest winning streak of the season with its win over the Seawolves on Wednesday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team (31-10-1, 11-1 BIG EAST) extended its winning streak to eight games, toppling Ston Brook, 8-0, in five innings on Wednesday afternoon at Red Storm Field.
The eight-game winning streak matches the Red Storm's longest it has held this season from Feb. 23 to March 6. With 31 victories on the year, the Johnnies have already matched their win total from 2024 and are just one win shy of tying the program record of 32 wins accomplished in both the 1990 and 2017 seasons.
London Jarrard made program history in the win, breaking Kacee Cox's career RBI record with 155 RBIs during her astonishing four years in Queens. Last season, Jarrard set the single-season program record by totaling 51 RBIs and is on pace to break that mark again this year. The senior tallied four RBIs in the win, including a two-run home run in the opening frame. Jarrard now rides a six-game hitting streak and has homered in four of her last five games. The Carlsbad, Calif., product continues to lead the Red Storm, batting .434 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs.
Melanie Santos launched her fourth homer of the season in the fourth inning with a solo shot. The first baseman has started every game for St. John's this season and racked up 16 RBIs.
Jess Bianco paced the offense by tallying three hits against Stony Brook. The center fielder also came around to score her team-leading 46th run and swiped her team-high 25th base of the season in the victory.
Elanna Lysiak added a pair of RBIs, including the game-winning RBI single in the fifth while Cassidy Stouffer notched an RBI double to round out the scoring for St. John's.
Inside the circle, Loreley Francia picked up her team-leading 16th win, giving up just four hits and a walk across four shutout frames. The right-hander added five strikeouts, bringing her total to 146 punchouts in 2025.
Francia began the top of the first with a pair of punchouts and catcher Anese Thompson supplied some defensive assistance by nabbing would-be stealer Alyssa Costello at second for the third out of the inning, 0-0.
Bianco led off the home half by battling through a 13-pitch at-bat to record an infield single to third base. Jarrard then launched a towering two-run home run off to right field, 2-0. Lysiak followed by reaching second on an error ahead of Stouffer drilling an RBI double into left field, 3-0.
After Francia tossed another clean frame in the top of the second, the Red Storm offense continued to pounce, loading the bases on three consecutive singles by Natalie Casto, Madison Konopka and Bianco. Jarrard then sent a fly ball to center field and an error allowed a run to come home, 4-0. Lysiak brought home another run on a fielder's choice to extend St. John's lead to 5-0.
Inside the circle, Francia continued to roll with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the third, generating a trio of weak groundouts to hold the Red Storm's five-run advantage.
Santos tacked on another run for the Johnnies in the bottom of the fourth, blasting a solo home run over the wall in left-center field, 6-0.
Stony Brook (15-18, 10-5 CAA) threatened in the top of the fourth, loading the bases on three straight base hits. However, Francia recorded her fifth punchout of the contest before inducing a groundball to short for an inning-ending double play to keep the Seawolves off the scoreboard and St. John's up six runs.
The score held until the bottom of the fifth when the Red Storm loaded the bases with two outs on a Casto walk and a pair of singles by Konopka and Bianco. Jarrard then reached on a fielder's choice to bring home a run before Lysiak enforced the run-ahead rule by drilling an RBI single into right field, giving St. John's an 8-0 win over Stony Brook.
The Johnnies will continue BIG EAST play when it makes the short trip to New Jersey for a three-game series with Seton Hall beginning on Friday at 2 p.m.
