St. John’s to Battle UConn for BIG EAST Regular Season Title

The Red Storm and Huskies are tied atop the conference standings with a 17-4 record
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team is set to conclude the regular season when it heads to UConn for a three-game series that will decide the BIG EAST Regular Season Champion and the top seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championships.
The series will begin on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by the middle contest slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday. The first pitch of the finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday. The entire series will be streamed on FloSports with Live Stats available at RedStormSports.com.
St. John's enters the weekend with a 37-14-1 overall record and a 17-4 mark in the conference. The 37 wins and counting are a new program record, while the 17 victories in BIG EAST play match the previous program record set in 2017. The Red Storm and Huskies have both secured a bye in the opening round of the BIG EAST Championships, locking up the top two seeds and will begin play next Thursday following the tournament's opening day on Wednesday.
Last weekend, the Johnnies wrapped up their 2025 home schedule by sweeping Villanova at Red Storm Field. The squad took both games of Friday's series-opening doubleheader with a 3-1 victory, followed by a dominant 11-2 run-rule triumph in five innings. St. John's sealed the sweep with a 5-2 win in the series finale on Sunday. The Red Storm finished its time in Queens with a 15-2 record and a perfect 12-0 mark in BIG EAST play, notching sweeps over Georgetown, Providence, DePaul and the Wildcats.
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week Ana Serafinko helped lead the Red Storm to its series sweep with a pair of dominant performances against Villanova. The left-hander began the series by allowing just one run on two hits while tallying 16 strikeouts in the 3-1 victory. Serafinko wrapped up the series with a 10-strikeout showing in the 5-2 win, where she broke the BIG EAST Regular Season record with 137 strikeouts and counting in conference play this season.
Overall, the junior has totaled 260 strikeouts in 2025, ranking second in the country and is just seven punchouts shy of matching the St. John's single-season program record. Serafinko's four BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors this year are the most in a single season in St. John's history.
Led by Serafinko and Loreley Francia, the Red Storm pitching staff has been dominant this season with 463 team strikeouts and a 2.26 ERA to rank first and 10th in DI, respectively. Francia's 174 punchouts this season are 18th in the country.
Anese Thompson was tabbed to the conference's weekly honor roll on Monday for the first time since the 2023 season. The senior strung together an impressive week, going 7-for-11 (.636) with three runs scored, a double, one home run and two RBIs. The senior is batting .274 with six doubles, four homers and 23 RBIs this season.
London Jarrard continued to be a force within the Johnnies' lineup, going 6-for-12 (.500) with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs across four games last week. The shortstop leads the team with a .429 batting average, 12 doubles, 13 homers and 57 RBIs in 2025.
UConn enters the weekend with a 31-15 overall record after most recently falling to Boston College, 10-5, on Tuesday afternoon. In their last BIG EAST series, the Huskies swept Georgetown by scores of 2-1, 12-4 (5) and 12-3 (5), to improve to 17-4 in conference play and sit tied atop the standings with the Red Storm.
Grace Jenkins has led the UConn lineup, batting .422 with 19 doubles, 18 homers and 63 RBIs. Kaitlyn Breslin is not far behind Jenkins with a .406 batting average, 16 home runs and 51 RBIs. Inside the circle, Payton Kinney tops the Huskies' staff with a 2.23 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 100.2 innings pitched this season.
