QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's and women's golf programs will be in attendance on Friday for the 2025 Ryder Cup at the Bethpage State Park Black Course to cheer on Red Storm alumnus and United States captain Keegan Bradley.
The entire Red Storm men's and women's golf programs will be seated in the first tee grandstand at Bethpage Black, as the biennial match play competition commences at 7:10 a.m. The teams will be joined by Head Coaches Phil Wildermuth and Ambry Bishop-Santillo and Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed Kull.
"On behalf of the entire St. John's University community, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to Keegan Bradley on his historic appointment as captain of the United States Ryder Cup team," said St. John's University President Brian J. Shanley, O.P. "Keegan's journey from our Queens Campus to the fairways of Bethpage Black and now to the global stage at the 2025 Ryder Cup is a testament to his relentless dedication, integrity, and passion for the game. His leadership reflects the very spirit of St. John's graduates — grit, humility, and excellence. We are immensely proud of all he has accomplished and honored to call him one of our own. Go Team U.S.A.!"
"There's no better ambassador for St. John's University than Keegan Bradley," Kull said. "His selflessness, leadership and connection to his alma mater is something we are so proud of. To have the chance to be there supporting him alongside our student-athletes is truly special"
Additionally, Bradley and the PGA of America will send over 60 St. John's men's and women's golf alumni to the Ryder Cup's final round on Sunday afternoon. The tickets were apart of the "People's Perk" campaign, an initiative run by Bradley and the PGA of America to send over 3,000 New Yorkers to Bethpage Black.
"What an opportunity for our student-athletes to have this truly once and a lifetime experience," Bishop-Santillo said as she enters her 22nd year leading the women's golf program. "We are so grateful to Keegan for being such a great role model for our student-athletes, our athletic department and our entire University."
Bradley, who starred for the Red Storm from 2004-08 will represent his country on familiar grounds at Bethpage State Park, 18 miles from the St. John's University Campus. Over his four seasons with the Johnnies, the Woodstock, Vt., native never finished lower than seventh over his four appearances in the McLaughlin, now known as The Doc Gimmler, St. John's annual home golf tournament held at the Bethpage Red Course.
"Keegan embodies everything we value in the St. John's Men's Golf program," Wildermuth said. "Even with all his success, he remains a gracious gentleman and has an unwavering love for St. John's. We can't wait to be there cheering him on."
A 2020 St. John's Hall of Fame inductee, Bradley has strung together an impressive resume as a player in the professional ranks has logged eight wins on the PGA Tour, 65 top-10 finishes, one major title and currently ranks 11th overall in Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
Bradley was named the captain on July 8, 2024 and was formally introduced the next day in front of his former St. John's teammates and Head Coach Frank Darby. Last year, the Red Storm golf programs attended the "One Year Out" press conference at the Times Center in Manhattan. Afterwords, the student-athletes got the opportunity to meet Bradley and were photographed with him and the Ryder Cup trophy.
"Hello, New York. It's good to be back. Go Johnnies," Bradley said to begin his speech at yesterday's opening ceremony.
