HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2025) — The St. John's men's tennis team opened its fall schedule this weekend, totaling 21 victories at the Hofstra Invitational.
The Johnnies faced off against athletes from Hofstra, Fordham, Stony Brook, NJIT, St. Joseph's and Army across the two-day event in Hempstead, N.Y. This marks the second consecutive year Head Coach Dillon Pottish has brought his team to the Prides' Invitational.
Freshman Mats Pottbecker shined in his Red Storm debut, earning six victories and going 3-0 with a championship game bid alongside fellow newcomer in Sergej Zivkovic. On Friday, Pottbecker secured a hard-fought singles win, rallying for a 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory over Hofstra's Alex Di Fruscia.
Danilo Raicevic had a strong weekend, picking up four wins and going undefeated in singles play. In the second round, he secured a decisive 7-5, 6-2 victory over NJIT's Severin Risan.
The tournament concluded early as several finals were not completed, with St. John's players set to face off against one another after dominating the field.
