The Red Storm won seven matches over two days in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA — The St. John's men's tennis team concluded its fall campaign over the weekend at the Dragon Invite on the campus of Drexel University. The event featured both singles and doubles match play.
The Johnnies secured seven victories over two days of competition, facing opponents from Drexel, Villanova, Temple, NJIT, FDU and Monmouth. The event, originally slated for three days, was shortened after Saturday's matches were canceled due to inclement weather.
Juniors, Danilo Raicevic and Semen Agynskyy led the charge for the Red Storm, each securing a pair of victories. On the first day of action, Raicevic teamed up with freshman Filip Paroulek to edge out NJIT's Sadhista Linga and Tom Sorin in a tightly contested 7-6 battle. Agynskyy joined forces with senior Adam Groves, and the duo impressed with a commanding 6-3 victory over NJIT's Soma Fukuhara and Maxime Hankins in doubles play.
Venedikt Tsirikidze had an impressive weekend in the City of Brotherly Love, earning victories in both singles and doubles competition. Teaming up with Armando Sotelo in doubles play, the duo cruised to a dominant 6-1 win over NJIT's Severan Risin and Juan Diego Argenal. On the singles court, Tsirikidze picked up a hard-fought 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 decision over Temple's Maj Najvirt Kolaric.
