St. John’s to Host Villanova on Saturday Afternoon on FS1

The Red Storm will host Alumnae Day for 2 p.m. tip-off at Carnesecca Arena
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball team will host Villanova to close out a two-game homestand on Saturday afternoon in Carnesecca Arena at 2 p.m.
Saturday's contest will air on FS1 with Sloane Martin and Kim Adams on the call from Queens. It will mark the Johnnies' second consecutive nationally televised game.

There will be a rally towel giveaway for fans, provided by Maspeth Federal Savings, as well as a lunch box giveaway for select ticket buyers in honor of Catholic School Day. Alumnae of the women's basketball program are invited to a pre-game reception in the Hall of Fame room starting at 12 pm and can register here.
In their most recent outing, St. John's (15-6, 5-5 BIG EAST) suffered a heartbreaking loss to Marquette, 56-55, at Carnesecca Arena on a last-second score. Despite the narrow defeat, the Johnnies were sharp at the free-throw line for the second consecutive game, converting 10-of-11 attempts (90.9%).
Brooke Moore led the way with 16 points, shooting an efficient 60% from the floor and 50% from three-point range. She delivered a strong all-around performance, adding four rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and an assist.
Beautiful Waheed contributed 13 points, while Daniela Abies chipped in 10 to round out the Johnnies' double-figure scorers. Abies also tied Sa'Mya Wyatt for the team lead with seven rebounds.
Through 21 games, the Red Storm have made their mark on the defensive end. St. John's leads the BIG EAST and ranks 21st nationally in blocked shots, averaging 5.1 per game. Moore, Waheed, and Kylie Lavelle anchor the interior defense, with Moore averaging 1.3 blocks per game and Lavelle and Waheed close behind at 1.1 apiece.
Graduate student guard Shaulana Wagner continues to rank among the nation's top playmakers, standing 38th nationally and leading the BIG EAST with an average of 5.0 assists per game.
St. John's and Villanova (15–4, 8–2 BIG EAST) will face off for the second time this season and the 81st meeting overall on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 50–30. Earlier this season, St. John's fell on the road 85-48 at Villanova on Dec. 22, with three players scoring in double figures. Moore paced the team with 11 points, four boards, an assist, a block and a steal.
The Wildcats opened 2026 with a 4-2 record, only falling to Marquette and No. 1/1 UConn. Villanova most recent earned a 73-65 home win over Butler on Jan. 18. The Wildcats are now 15-4 overall and 8-2 in BIG EAST play and are currently sitting in second in conference standings.
Jasmine Bascoe brings a complete, well-rounded skill set to Villanova, combining efficient scoring with strong playmaking. She averages 17.2 points per game while dishing out 4.7 assists per contest. Bascoe ranks among the top 70 players nationally and sits third in the BIG EAST in scoring and second in assists. She also leads the conference and ranks ninth nationally in field goal attempts, shooting 130-for-323 on the season. Alongside Brynn McCurry, Bascoe helps drive the Wildcats' ball movement, with the duo ranking fifth and seventh in the BIG EAST, respectively, in assist-to-turnover ratio, Bascoe at 1.82 and McCurry at 1.78.
The Wildcats have established themselves as national contenders, ranking among the top 20 teams in the country from beyond the arc. Villanova averages 9.1 three-pointers per game, good for 18th nationally, while shooting 36.4 percent from deep, 20th in the NCAA and third in the BIG EAST. The Wildcats also excel at ball movement, ranking second in the conference and 10th nationally with 19.1 assists per game. Their 1.39 assist-to-turnover ratio ranks 14th in Division I and second in the league.
Following Saturday's contest, St. John's will travel to Omaha, Neb. to take on Creighton on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
