St. John’s Opens Campaign with 4–1 Victory Over Quinnipiac

Johnnies earn decisive win over the Bobcats in season opener
NORTH HAVEN, Conn. – The St. John's men's tennis team opened its 2026 spring slate with a strong 4-1 triumph over Quinnipiac on Thursday afternoon.
The Johnnies (1-0) have won eight consecutive season openers and nine of the last 10.
In doubles play, Radomir Tomic and Danilo Raicevic earned a 6–2 victory over Carl Sjoholm and Elias Hoxha on the no. 3 court. After Quinnipiac evened the score with a win on the no. 1 court, Adam Groves and Semen Agynskyy secured the doubles point for the Red Storm, edging Finn Burridge and Vishal Prakash in a nail-biter, 7–6 (9), on the no. 2 court.
Leading 1–0, Agynskyy carried his momentum into singles play, earning a commanding 6–3, 6–0 victory over Hoxha on the no. 3 court. Freshman Sergej Zivkovic recorded his first win in a St. John's uniform on the no. 4 court, defeating Alessando Sciacca, 6–2, 6–2, to give the Johnnies a 3–0 lead.
Quinnipiac answered on the no. 1 court to cut the deficit to 3–1. Tomic clinched the match for the Red Storm, rallying past Burridge in a three-set battle, 5–7, 6–3, 6–1.
With the win, St. John's has now won nine straight against the Bobcats, dating back to 2015.
The Johnnies will return to Queens tomorrow to host Siena and FDU with first serve set for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. respectively, at Cunningham Park.
