St. John’s Men’s Tennis to Open 2026 Campaign This Week

Red Storm will face Quinnipiac on Thursday and will host doubleheader at home on Friday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The reigning BIG EAST Champion St. John's men's tennis team will open its 2026 spring campaign with three matches this week.
The Johnnies will kick off the campaign on Thursday at Quinnipiac for an 11 a.m. first serve at the North Haven Health and Racquet Club in Connecticut. On Friday, St. John's will host a doubleheader at Cunningham Park for its home opener, welcoming Siena at 11 a.m. and FDU at 2 p.m.
The Red Storm is coming off another standout campaign, capturing the program's sixth BIG EAST title since 2014 and its second in the last three seasons. Head Coach Dillon Pottish was recognized for his leadership, earning BIG EAST Coach of the Year honors.
The Johnnies secured a program record 25 victories last spring, surpassing the 20-win mark for the third straight season under Pottish. St. John's returns three key contributors from last year's championship squad, including Adam Groves, who posted a perfect 17-0 doubles record alongside partner Ryota Kaneda. Juniors Danilo Raicevic and Armando Sotelo also return after each earned BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week honors last season.
The Red Storm will face Quinnipiac, who enters the season fresh off its second consecutive MAAC Championship. The Bobcats defeated Rider 4–1 in the title match. Quinnipiac also secured the program's sixth NCAA Tournament appearance and return seven members from last spring's championship squad.
St. John's holds a 9-0 all-time record against Quinnipiac and this season marks the sixth straight year the two programs will meet on the hard court.
On Friday at the bubble, the Johnnies battle Siena who is coming off an appearance in the MAAC Tournament Semifinals, where they fell to Rider. The Saints return MAAC Singles Championship finalist Sviatoslav Koliadynskyi, who posted a 6-3 record in singles play.
The Red Storm have won three straight matches against Siena, including a 6-1 victory in their most recent meeting in on March 10, 2023 at the USTA National Tennis Center.
FDU opens the season coming off a conference tournament semifinals appearance under 2025 NEC Coach of the Year Alex Cole. In conference play, the Knights went an outstanding 5-1, earning the conference regular season title behind NEC All-tournament team member Gryffin Minor who went a perfect 4-0 in singles conference play.
Following this week's matches, the Red Storm will host Drexel on Feb. 4 at the USTA National Tennis Center in Queens.
