St. John’s Drops Series Finale to Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. (Feb. 22, 2026) – The St. John's baseball team lost its series finale against Arizona State, 16-6, on Sunday afternoon at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
The Red Storm (1-6) jumped out to an early lead, but the Sun Devils (7-0) used three high-scoring innings to take control of the game.
Seven different Johnnies collected a hit, including two hit outings from Jon LeGrande and Dylan Fitzsimmons, each of whom went 2-for-4 with a walk.
Ayden Frey and Adam Agresti knocked in two runs apiece while Jayder Raifstanger went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and two runs scored.
Shaun McMillan went 1-for-4 with a walk and scored a run. Jack Tate went 1-for-3 with a single in his second start as a Johnnie.
After two scoreless frames, the Johnnies got on the board first in the third inning. After Raifstanger and McMillan drew walks, Frey sent a sac fly into right field and brought home Raifstanger. In the following at-bat, Agresti reached on an error to bring home McMillan, putting St. John's ahead 2-0.
Arizona State roared back in the bottom of the frame, tacking on five runs on a series of defensive miscues.
St. John's threatened in the top half of the fifth frame, loading the bases with no outs on a Raifstanger double, a Fitzsimmons single and an error that allowed McMillan to reach. The
Red Storm brought home one of those runners, as Agresti lifted a one-out sac fly to make it 5-3 Sun Devils.
In the home half of the sixth, the home team extended its lead with a six-run inning, 11-3. Arizona State tacked on five more runs in the eighth to make it 16-3.
St. John's plated three runs in the ninth, as Fitzsimmons, Frey and Agresti logged RBIs to make it 16-6.
The Red Storm will return to action with a three-game set against No. 18 Kentucky beginning on Feb. 27, in Lexington, Ky. First pitch in Friday's opener is set for 4 p.m. at Kentucky Proud Park.
