St. John’s to Host No. 1/1 UConn at Madison Square Garden in Regular Season Finale

The Red Storm hosts the top-ranked Huskies for the program’s first-ever standalone game at MSG at 7:30 on TNT
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball team will host No.1/1 UConn in the regular season finale at Madison Square Garden, for the program's first-ever standalone women's college basketball game, on Sunday.

St. John's women's basketball branded t-shirts will be given to all students in section two, and one lucky student will have a chance to shoot a half-court shot for $25,000.
Sunday's contest will be nationally televised on TNT with JB Long and Aja Ellison on the call from the World's Most Famous Arena at 7:30 p.m. Autum Johnson will serve as the sideline reporter in Hartford. Additionally, the game will be available on truTV.
For the first time in program history, Sunday's contest will be available on terrestrial radio airing on ESPN New York 880 AM, the ESPN New York app and the Varsity Network. Pat O'Keefe and Maria Marino will have the radio call from "The Mecca".
The women's basketball program will play its 19th-ever game on the hallowed hardwood of "The Mecca" and its first-ever standalone outing at the venue, on Sunday. St. John's holds a 11-7 overall record at MSG. The Red Storm women's program played its first-ever contest at The Garden 21 years ago in 2004.
Head Coach Joe Tartamella has been part of every one of the program's 18 previous games at The Garden, serving first as a graduate assistant and assistant coach before taking the helm. Now in his 14th season as head coach, Tartamella holds a 5-2 record at MSG, including back-to-back victories the last two seasons.
St. John's has secured notable conference victories at the venue in recent seasons. The Johnnies edged Villanova, 51-46, in their BIG EAST opener on Dec. 16, 2023, and defeated Butler 65-43, on Feb. 16, 2025. In their most recent appearance at MSG.
St. John's will meet UConn for the fourth time at The World's Most Famous Arena and the first since Jan. 4, 2015, in the Maggie Dixon Classic. The Huskies have taken all three previous meetings.
In its most recent outing, St. John's (21-9, 11-8 BIG EAST) secured its first season sweep of Seton Hall since the 2019-20 campaign. The back-and-forth contest featured 12 lead changes and 10 ties throughout. Trailing by one point with 1:04 remaining, the Johnnies came up with crucial defensive stops and converted key free throws down the stretch to earn the win at Walsh Gymnasium.
Daniela Abies registered her third double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and a season-high 19 rebounds, nearly half the team's total. Her 19 boards marked the highest single-game rebounding total by a Red Storm player since Dec. 9, 2018, when Kayla Charles pulled down 20.
Shaulana Wagner contributed 12 points, dished out a team-high five assists, and grabbed six rebounds. Janeya Grant added 11 points, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
With Wagner's second five-assist game in a row, she registered her 23rd game with at least three or more helpers across 27 appearances this season. The graduate student ranks third in the BIG EAST and 52nd nationally, averaging 4.7 assists per game.
For the second time this season, Abies earned a BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition after averaging 14.0 rebounds and 9.5 points while shooting 66.7% from the field and 70% from the line in a split week for the Red Storm. She totaled 9.5 points and 14.0 rebounds across games against Georgetown and Seton Hall, highlighted by a 12-point, 19-rebound double-double in a 59-56 win at Seton Hall. The forward currently leads the squad and sits sixth in the conference, averaging 6.9 rebounds per outing this season.

The undefeated Huskies hold a 53-18 advantage in the all-time series, with the Red Storm last besting the then-No. 4/5 Huskies inside, formerly the XL Center, 69-64 on Feb. 21, 2023. Earlier this year, St. John's fell 88-43 to UConn at PeoplesBank Arena on Jan. 7.

Fudd ranks just behind teammate Sarah Strong in conference scoring, sitting third in the Big East Conference and 50th nationally at 18.1 points per game. Strong has been dominant for the nationally ranked Huskies, leading the conference in field-goal percentage (59.7%), which places her 10th in the country. She also paces the league in steals (3.14 per game, 16th nationally) and scoring (18.8 per game, 37th in Division I). Additionally, Strong ranks second in the BIG EAST and 42nd in the nation with 1.62 blocks per contest.
Following Sunday's contest, St. John's will head to Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. to compete in the BIG EAST Tournament.
