St. John’s to Host Xavier for Wednesday Night Clash

The Red Storm ride 21-game winning streak over the Musketeers into BIG EAST battle
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball team will host Xavier for Everyone Watches Women's Sports Night on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
Saturday's contest will be streamed on ESPN+ with Maria Marino and Edona Thaqi on the call from Queens.

St. John's will host "Everyone Watches Women's Sports" night in celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), Two students at the game will have a chance to win a free student section ticket to the sold-out men's basketball game against UConn on Feb. 6. Winners will be announced in the second half of the game.
In their most recent outing, St. John's (17-7, 7-6 BIG EAST) earned the road win over Providence, 62-53, on Saturday afternoon in Rhode Island. The Johnnies shot 41.2% from the field and 84.2% from the free throw line. Defensively, the Red Storm limited Providence to just 11.1% shooting from 3-point range.
Daniela Abies paced the Red Storm with her second double-double of the season and 12th of her career, finishing with a season-high 16 points and 11 rebounds, along with two assists and a steal, as she paced the team in scoring for the second time this season.
Brooke Moore added 10 points and Janeya Grant contributed 11 to give St. John's three scorers in double figures. Jailah Donald recorded a season-high five assists.
Abies earned her first BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection of the season after posting averages of 11.0 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 57.1% from the field and 85.7% at the free-throw line during a split week for the Red Storm.
Through 24 games, the Red Storm have made their presence felt defensively. St. John's sits second in the BIG EAST and 26th in the nation in blocked shots, logging 5.0 per contest. Moore currently ranks fifth in the conference averaging 1.3 rejections per outing.

Meri Kanerva leads all of NCAA Division I and the conference in minutes played at 38.09 per game, while also pacing the team with 4.0 assists per contest and contributing 9.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per competition.
