The Red Storm plays host to Wagner on March 4 in Queens
GREENVILLE, N.C. — The St. John's softball team (14-6, 0-0 BIG EAST) concluded play at the Battle at the Max on Sunday, falling in matchups against Rider and host East Carolina at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
The Red Storm generated its largest offensive push of the afternoon in the early window against Rider, scoring six times in the fourth inning behind a two-run single from Jess Bianco, an RBI single by Cassidy Stouffer, a run-scoring single from Natasha Limbani and a two-run triple from Madison Konopka.
In the rematch with ECU, St. John's leaned on Ana Serafinko, who delivered a complete game with seven strikeouts while holding the Pirates to just three hits. The Chino Hills, Calif., native was also responsible for the Johnnies' lone run of the contest courtesy of Avery Neuman's RBI in the top of the fourth.
Game 1: Rider 17, St. John's 8 (6 inn.)
After falling behind 6-0 early, St. John's responded in the bottom of the first when Limbani launched a two-run homer to deep left to bring the score to 6-2. Limbani now has three home runs on the season, which leads the team.
Rider would tack on nine more runs before the Red Storm followed with its most productive frame of the weekend in the fourth inning.
St. John's opened the inning with an error and a single before Bianco lined a two-run single into right. Stouffer added an RBI base hit up the middle and Limbani followed with her second run-scoring hit of the game. Konopka then delivered a two-run triple down the right field line to complete the six-run surge, bringing the score to 15-8. The inning featured five hits, four different players producing runs and three unearned runs before the second out was recorded.
The six-run inning marked the Red Storm's second highest-scoring frame of the season and the program's most in a single inning since scoring seven in the top of the fifth in an 8-5 win over LIU on Feb. 13.
Limbani totaled three RBIs, while Bianco and Konopka each added two apiece.
Game 2: East Carolina 2, St. John's 1
In a low-scoring affair, St. John's relied on Serafinko, who delivered one of her strongest outings of the season. The senior left-handed pitcher retired six of the first seven batters she faced, held ECU hitless through the first three innings and allowed only one hit through the fourth frame.
The Red Storm broke through in the fourth when Serafinko doubled to left, Elanna Lysiak was hit by a pitch and Post drew a walk to load the bases. Neuman brought home the run with an RBI fielder's choice to give St. John's a 1-0 advantage.
St. John's continued to create traffic in the later innings as Post added an infield single in the sixth and the Ride Storm brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but ECU secured the final out to close the game.
Serafinko finished the complete game with seven strikeouts and three hits allowed.
Having completed its time in the Tar Heel State, St. John's will return home to host Wagner on March 4 for the first contest at Red Storm Field of the 2026 campaign.
