Softball Takes Game One of Georgetown Series, 5-3

The Johnnies have now won six straight
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The St. John's softball team opened its three-game BIG EAST road series with a 5-3 victory over Georgetown on Friday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Softball Complex.
The Red Storm (21-8, 2-2 BIG EAST) extended its winning streak to six games, using a three-run third inning to build an early lead before holding off a late push from the Hoyas (8-9, 1-3 BIG EAST).
St. John's totaled five runs on eight hits in the contest, with Natasha Limbani leading the way with two hits and two RBIs. London Slade added a pair of hits, while Ana Serafinko contributed an RBI at the plate and struck out seven batters in a complete-game effort. Serafinko earned her 11th win of the season in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing three runs on five hits and striking out seven.
St. John's broke through in the third inning. Jess Bianco singled and advanced to third before Serafinko drove her in with an RBI single. Limbani followed with a two-run single to plate Serafinko and Elanna Lysiak, extending the advantage to 3-0.
The Red Storm added to their lead in the fourth inning. After Ava Fierst and Madison Konopka reached base, Lysiak brought home a run on a Georgetown error to make it 4-0.
St. John's tacked on another run in the fifth inning when Fierst lifted a sacrifice fly to score Limbani and push the lead to 5-0.
Georgetown cut into the deficit in the fifth inning with an RBI single before capitalizing on a St. John's error in the sixth to trim the deficit to 5-3.
The Hoyas brought the tying run to the plate in the final frame after a leadoff single, but Serafinko forced a flyout and a pair of groundouts to secure the victory.
The Johnnies are back in action at 12 p.m. tomorrow at Mount Vernon Softball Complex for game two of their series against the Hoyas.
