Red Storm jump out to early four-run lead, but Hoyas Respond with five unanswered to even series

WASHINGTON — The St. John's softball team dropped game two of its three-game BIG EAST road series to Georgetown, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Softball Complex.

The Red Storm (21-9, 2-3 BIG EAST) jumped out to an early four-run lead in the first inning, but the Hoyas (9-9, 2-3 BIG EAST) responded with five unanswered runs to secure the victory and even the series.

St. John's totaled four runs on 11 hits in the contest, highlighted by a five-hit first inning. Natasha Limbani recorded two hits and two RBIs, while Jess Bianco and Ava Fierst added two hits apiece.

The Red Storm wasted no time getting on the board in the opening frame. Bianco and Slade each singled to begin the game before Ana Serafinko drove in the first run with an RBI single.

Limbani followed with a two-run double to extend the lead, and Fierst later singled before Makenna Meadows brought home a run on a Georgetown error, giving St. John's a 4-0 advantage.

Georgetown answered in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.

The Hoyas took control in the second inning, scoring three runs on a two-run double and an RBI double to move ahead, 5-4.

Both teams settled in defensively over the middle innings, as St. John's was held scoreless despite putting multiple runners on base in the sixth and seventh frames.

The Red Storm threatened in the final inning, placing runners on second and third with two outs, but Georgetown recorded the final out to hold on for the one-run victory.

St. John's will look to secure the series in the finale tomorrow at Mount Vernon Softball Complex, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
