Red Storm never trailed in the series finale

WASHINGTON — The St. John's softball team secured the series victory with a 6-5 win over Georgetown on Sunday afternoon at the Mount Vernon Softball Complex.

The Red Storm (22-9, 3-3 BIG EAST) scored in four different innings and held off a late push from the Hoyas (9-10, 2-4 BIG EAST) to take the finale.

St. John's totaled six runs on 10 hits in the contest. Jess Bianco led the way with three hits and two runs scored, while Ana Serafinko recorded two hits and three RBIs. Ava Fierst added two hits and two RBIs in the win, and Elanna Lysiak chipped in two hits and one RBI.

Serafinko picked up her 12th complete game of the season, striking out nine in the circle.

The Red Storm struck first in the opening inning. Bianco singled to lead off the game before Serafinko delivered a two-run double to put St. John's ahead. Fierst followed later in the frame with an RBI single, extending the lead to 3-0.

Georgetown answered in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run double to trim the deficit to 3-2.

After being held scoreless in the second inning, St. John's added a run in the third. Following a hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch, Fierst singled to bring home a run and push the lead to 4-2.

The Hoyas responded with two runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a solo home run and an RBI single to even the score at 4-4.

St. John's regained the lead in the fourth inning. Bianco reached base and later scored on an RBI single from Serafinko to make it 5-4.

Georgetown tied the game once again in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly.

The Red Storm delivered the decisive run in the sixth inning. Bianco singled and stole second before Lysiak drove her in with an RBI single to give St. John's a 6-5 advantage.

Georgetown threatened in the final frame after a leadoff hit-by-pitch, but the Red Storm pitching staff recorded back-to-back strikeouts to secure the victory.

St. John's returns to action at Donald E. Walsh Field at Rice Oval on March 25 for a midweek matchup against Iona at 2 p.m. The contest will be livestreamed at IonaGaels.com, with live stats available on RedStormSports.com.
