The Red Storm eye 4-0 start in BIG EAST play
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's tennis team is set to square off against Georgetown (5-12, 2-1 BIG EAST) in a conference showdown on Wednesday in College Park, Md. First serve from the Junior Tennis Champions Center is scheduled for 9:45 a.m.
The Red Storm enter the matchup following a challenging three-match stretch against some of the nation's top competition.
Despite the recent results, St. John's has excelled in BIG EAST play, dropping just three total points across victories over Creighton, Xavier and Butler.
Georgetown comes into Wednesday's contest having won four of its last five matches, including back-to-back victories over Saint Joseph's and Loyola (Md.). After opening conference play with a loss to Creighton, the Hoyas responded with commanding 6-1 wins against Butler and Marquette.
Jake Fellows has led the way for Georgetown, posting a 9-5 record in singles play, all on the No. 1 court. In doubles action, Fellows has compiled a 14-8 record alongside partners Arthur O'Sullivan and Hank Williams.
Last season, the Hoyas advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals before falling to eventual champion St. John's, 4-1, in South Carolina.
The Red Storm hold a 14-3 advantage in the all-time series against Georgetown dating back to 2003, including wins in each of the last six meetings between the two programs.
Following Wednesday's match, St. John's will return to action for a doubleheader against Queens College and Fordham at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts. First serve against the Knights is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. matchup with the Rams.
